I was at the GoldStrike a few years ago (I think before the WPT really got rolling), and they were doing it then.

Granted, I was only there for a couple of days, and basically stuck to one casino, but still. Mississippi is a whole different poker game.

Well I know you want bad players at the game, and the suckout was just another suckout, but hypothetically by saying what he did, the two players at the end might have folded to my bet and thus I win no side pot, because they know he hit is flush.

His saying it had no impact on the action which was good, but it had potential to.

I just can't fathom that you should be allowed to discuss the cards in your hand while the hand is still in play.

He might of well said "I have 2 low hearts" or something etc.

Bear in mind this player was all in so at that point lying for deception was not an issue, he was not going to fold or get any more action on his money.

Depending on the situation, it could mean losing current customers in the hand. In this case, they're probably sticking around with their crappy 2nd pairs, etc and holding out for the side pot.

Absolute not true unless he's in the hand and it's head up. Problem with saying anything while there are more than one other player in the hand is that the information you're giving out is not of equal value to the other parties. The example above is a good one:: 1. it allowed the bettor to know that the all-in guy was on hearts, hence reducing the probability that one of the other players had hearts and hence enabling him to bet more easily. 2. it should have alerted one of the two callers that he was less likely to win the main pot, hence increasing the probability that he would fold the river (if he had any brains).

These are the kind of effects that you do not want in the game. (Just imagine a hi/lo split pot game where one guys tells the another to raise so I can reraise cause I'm going high.)

Just cause you're in the hand does not mean you can say whatever you want. I've never heard of any poker environment where such a rule (official or otherwise) exists.

I see this all the time. Usually it's about 50-50 between a player that thinks he's being clever and deceptive (and actually has something like TP) and a player that's just having fun and isn't all that concerned about preserving the sanctity of the game.

Usually there are enough deceptive players around that no one will believe the guy anyway, and the "fun" atmosphere that it creates more than outweighs any potential harm. Remember that a lot of low-limit players don't really see poker as a predatory game of skill - to them its just another form of gambling where you all throw your chips in the middle and see who's hand ends up best.

I'm sure if you complained to the dealer he'd tell this guy to STFU, but you'd almost definately cost yourself money by doing that - you're in a 3-6 game, after all, don't be that guy that wants to play "serious" poker when everyone else is just having fun.
