Pick my Digital Camera <= $500
 

I want a digital camera.

I'm looking to spend around $500 or less.

I like the viewfinder option for sure.

It would be cool if it could do video too but it's mostly for pictures.

A ton of pictures will be going on the web or through e-mail so I need to be able to transfer easily.

I don't want something that is huge in size or is too heavy to bring anywhere. I also don't want something that will fall apart easily.

Point and shoot without having to set 5000 options is also something I'm looking for.

Okay photo pros, have at it.

Links with pictures/deals/reviews would be great.

Canon A95 - review They are badass cameras. I've seen deals at $300-$400. They use CF media so it's cheap and you can insert the microdrive for multigigabyte storage. All you have to do to transfer is plug a cord from USB to camera.... no software needed.

I have the T1 and it's decent. The viewfinder is huge and the design is beautiful, but the flash is lacking and leads to blurry pictures due presumably to longer exposures.

Ya, Sony isn't always what they are cracked up to be. If you are going to get a camera, go with a camera company.

I just picked up the W1.

It's quite nice.

If you like something in that class, which is the 5mp, pocket sized, the main competition there is the canon s500. Also in the exact same area is the Nikon Coolpix 5200.

Then again, it sounds like you quite possibly don't need/want the 5mp ability, so it's very possible you could get away with something smaller, possibly older, and definitely cheaper. All of those 3 cameras sell between 290 or so to 330 or so.

Get one that fits in your pocket. I bought a small Canon last year and my usage is much more than my other, non-digital camera just because of its size.

Get a Canon Powershot.

There are a couple of models: SD110, SD410, SD500 depending on how many megapixels you need, and price.

I got the SD110 (about $250), and a 512mb memory card ($150), and its pretty sweet. Lightweight and small, it can also take up to 3 minute videos with sound.

Its very easy to transfer photos to a PC, initially you have to load the software, but then you can just plug the camera in with a USB cable and click "transfer". Thats it. It downloads the pics to your PC creating folders for each date you took pictures.

You can do some more advanced settings with it, but so far I haven't messed with those much. Although it does have a cool panoramic feature I used where you can take a couple pictures of a landscape and "stich" them together.
