People who were not President who you wish would have been.

I was thinking about this today and in general how we really do end up settling for candidates many times.

My choice would be Jack Kemp. I would have loved it if Reagan would have picked him for VP instead of Bush. The way I see it Kemp gets elected and runs a much more conservative and innovative administration than Bush sr.

Of course Bush elder should have also picked Kemp over Quayle.

As a conservative, I can say there are two Democrats it would have been interesting to see win the presidency -- Hubert Humphry and Dan Moynihan. Too bad it's been that long since liberals have run a candidate with any principles.

Sen. Lugar, he has principals and actually "gets" foriegn policy. Lugar is also well versed on domestic issues like Agriculture that are just as important, if not more so then a lot of the hot button issues.

Dukakis-
cause then we wouldn't have to hear about Carter being the worst president in history- and we might not have to deal with Bush jr who is making a run at the title.

I agree. I especially had a lot of respect for Daniel Moynihan. I may not have agreed with all his ideas but he was a man of principle and reason. Not much to respect in the democratic 'leaders' of today....

Jack Kemp???!!! Yuck!

Jack Kemp is a nice guy but he is just another Bush43 compassionate conservative clone. I have had enough "compassionate conservatism" to last me 10 lifetimes...

So far George Allen impresses me.

In recent years, Colin Powell

1. He would have done a good job.
2. Great role model for everyone.
3. It would shut up minority groups who say the "playing field" is not level. Please no "your a racist" flames.

I'd vote for him. Unfortunately, all the "real" conservatives (as opposed to the compassionate and/or moderate type) don't want him. For that reason alone I'm even higher on the guy. Want to start a thread about why we like him?

I think it would be fun to see Felix Nietzche as President. Actually maybe I'd rather see him as the most powerful VP in history and have a pretty face as President. Maybe Jessica Alba?

-Alexander Hamilton
-Colin Powell, though he is too pro-drug-war
-RFK, who was the really good one... far better of a man and a statesman than Jack or Ted.
-George McGovern, who, though very liberal and even more unelectable, would have been far better than more nixon
-others i will remember later
