$22: Value Bet This River or Check and See the Action?

This is one of the last basic poker lessons that is finally beginning to set in for me. Given that I am planning to check and call a reasonable bet on the river here (though not overcall, only call a reasonable bet from a single opponent), should I just bet this out and not give my opponents a chance to bluff with a busted draw? Given my check on the river, is an overcall here out of line? My read on the turn was that both were on some sort of draw, though the bet/call action on the river made me change my mind.

In your position, and at this early stage, I would not have bet or called at any point. There is just too many players in the hand to do anything but fold with the 88 on the board. Not saying that your play was that bad, but at least for me, I will just see a flop with that bb hand and then check fold unless I strike gold on the flop. Maybe I bet the river if a ten comes on the turn, but probably not.

I agree with not betting the turn or river. You don't have much of a hand, and there are too many people to chase out.

Also, if you're going to hide your identity in the HH, you should hide the others too.

Because it is courteous. If it's important enough to hide your identity, then your opponents deserve the same consideration.

That river is very good for you and given you bet the turn, the river bet is for value.

edit: you got it in the title but are kinda missing the point of what a value bet is...a naked ace will not necessarily bet.
