Do you treat yourself after a good month? I do.

The first of every month I add up all the results from my different sites. I include all bonuses and you know what. If I surpass my monthly goal, it's time to begin preparations for the "Good Month Dinner". "Who's on the guest list?" you might ask. Me. That's all. Time to go shopping.

My local grocery store has a mediterranean olive bar. I grab one of those plastic platters and load it up with the following: Giant pimento stuffed green olives, garlic marinated mushrooms, roasted marinated tomatoes, small pieces of fresh mozzerella, & finally artichoke salad.

I head over to the meat section and grab a well marbled prime rib steak. This will accompany the lobster tail that is thawing in the fridge at home. I go grab some kind of well aged or exotic flavored cheese and I'm outta there. Time to go next door to the liquor store. I head for the wine isle. I choose a local sweet red cause that's my favorite.

I get home and inform my wife that is Good Month Dinner day. She asks me how I did and I tell her. She says "Good job babe" and it's off to the kitchen I go.

The lobster tail and prime rib go into the broiler, while I get the side dishes & cheese on the table & get the butter melting on the stove. I pour myself a glass of wine & a glass of milk ( I always have milk with dinner), and when the food is ready it's just me and my feast.

As I'm chowin' I reflect on what I need to work on in my game, and evaluate my strengths and weaknesses, and bankroll vs. the limits I'm playing.

Damn, after writing this it seems more like a ritual or ceremony than a reward. Anyone else treat themselves after a good month?

I treat myself after a good day by buying the ever so rare $10 lunch\dinner for myself.

Does your wife cook herself a hotdog while you're eating your Surf & Turf?

Re: Do you treat yourself after a good month? I do.

Most months I buy a little something Ive been wanting. I am at about the max limits I feel comfortable at right now. Any higher than 3/6ish, and pots start becoming what Im used to living off of for a week; and losing a big pot impacts me emotionally at limits higher than I play now (ie: Man, that was 3 days worth of food). So basically anything over what I need for a strong 3/6 bankroll I end up spending on myself after I pay off bills. My game isnt strong enough to test the waters at 5/10 short, and I cant handle swings that large, so Im a permanent small stakes dood until I cash big in a multi and have a roll big enough that I can afford to lose some of it learning to win at a higher limit.

Yup, same thing for me. Sometimes I may even go so far as to spend $15. Ahhh, the life of a low-limit whore.

I'm gonna start putting people who make idiotic posts on ignore. What's the over/under on how many days it takes me to reach 100?

Sure I do. I'm not a shut in, nor am I antisocial. One time after having a good month, I went out a grabbed a steak. The next month I added a lobster tail, and then it morphed into this wierd event, almost like a superstitious thing. After re-reading my post I can see how it could easily be seen as arrogant, or selfish, but I'm not like that. It's just a goofy thing I do.

It's funny...All the idiots that spend their time complaining about how other people's posts suck.

They actually take their time to click, read, and write shit.

Why do they waste their "own" time doing those foolish things. Isn't there something better they can do instead of whining AND posting about it?

Dealing With a Good Month

The month is over. You’ve paid all your expenses and deposited $500 into your savings. But you ran great and have an extra $1,400 left over. What should you do with it? Absolutely nothing. That’s because it’s not yours at all; it belongs to your bankroll. This is the part that destroys tons of pro careers, so pay attention. They take the extra $1,400 and figure, “Hey, this is free money. I can buy toys with it.” They buy plasma TVs and drum sets and new cars.

Unfortunately, it’s not free money at all; it’s insurance against a bad month. Normal jobs receive even payments from month to month. If you had a normal job, you might make your $3,000 each month, spend $2,300 of it on your nut, save $500, and spend $200 on extras.

As a poker player, you get paid in fits and spurts instead. Some months you’ll win $5,000 and others you’ll win only $1,000. But you make $3,000 a month on average, and you’d better still have the $2,000 extra you made during the $5,000 month when the $1,000 one rolls around.

Extra money you make beyond your budgeted expenses and monthly savings deposit belongs to your bankroll. It belongs in liquid form, uninvested and unspent. If you practice this from month to month, you’ll have a great cushion against bad runs so you won’t even have to worry about them anymore. And as your skills improve and your winrate increases, your bankroll will gradually grow until it is large enough to support moving up to the next limit. Your success hinges on your self-control during good months.

I'm more modest. Lately, I've just been spending $7 on lunch every day (when before my streak I would try to keep it in the $4 range). I usually bring my own bottel of water when I can though. Alsom I now only get the expensive $2.30 vegetarian fed eggs.

I don't.

I win at 3/6 NL and I still don't treat myself. I put the money in my roll and continue to move up.

When/if I beat 5/10 or 10/20 NL, I might start treating myself - by putting money down on my mortgage.

One day when that 200K is paid off. Oh, baby will I treat myself.
