Analyzing Overall Play

I got a bit of a surprise today when I looked at my session winning percentage for the first time. I have recorded 330 individual sessions, with a session being each indivudual table I have played, even while multi tabling. Over this span I am up close to 6700 Big Blinds, but when I looked at what percentage of sessions I have won money it is only 54%. These sessions total 800 hours of play so I would think the luck factor or any indivdual big win would have evened out over that time. Anyone else look at winning percentage that can give me an idea if these are reasonable numbers or help make sense of them?

Very important concept : a winning player will not win every session. In fact, 55-60% might be the norm, I don't know about the exact figure, but it certainly isn't in the 80's range, unless you're absolutely crushing a game, in which case you should look for potentially more profitable avenues (i.e. move up).

Something to think about:

If a game is not good and your expectation is low, you should leave. At this point, you might be down a little and the session should be fairly short. If a game is excellent, you will stay for as long as possible and, due to the game quality, you will expect to have a winning session. In an extreme case, your sessions might look like:

A; 10 minutes, -5BB
B: 150 minutes, +110BB
C: 110 minutes, +40BB
D: 5 minutes, -2BB
E: 15 minutes, -7BB

etc.

The person in the above example is up quite a bit but has only 40% winning sessions.

Very irrelevant statistic. Especially so if you multitable.
