Televised poker will never become a major sport
 

I just finished watching the Notre Dame /Michigan St. game. As much as I love poker and would like to see it suceed in the long term on TV, no poker telecast, live or taped, could ever come close in entertainment value to a good football game.

Because its ON TV. Its not a sport either.

Right. A good poker broadcast is so far above and beyond a bunch of 300 hundred pound men (400 with pads) banging in to each other over and over, that it's not even close.

But poker isn't a sport, so your subject is correct.

You guys got so caught up on the word "sport" that you missed the whole point of the article. I am pretty sure that the demographic of people that would watch televised poker (male, 12+, etc.) are the same demographic of people that watch sports. And guess what, televised poker will never be as entertaining as sports, and will probably be gone when the fad ends.

-Oh, and for the record, if I see something that is televised heavily on Fox Sports and ESPN I am going to call it a sport.

Dude, Golf is on TV all the time. And it sucks. So does bowling. And for the love of God, do you realize people watch Cricket in parts of this world?

Think this might have anything to do with the fact that poker isn't a sport?

I might add that competetive Halo 2, knitting, fishing, Gin, Backgammon, bridge, beirut etc. will never become a major sport.

(An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.)

Well, that might be true if you like football more than poker. Personally, I think football sucks. It sucks to play, it sucks to watch. Just because your personal tastes dictate one thing doesn't mean the rest of the world shares your taste.

Your post is kind of like saying Tiramisu will never succeed as a dessert. It's just a fad, and will die out soon. It just can't compare to a good slice of chocolate cake. I hate tiramisu, and I like chocolate cake. For me, this statement is true. However, there appears to be a lot of folks out there with different tastes than me, who like tiramisu.
