Flopped Set Played Poorly

MP2 is very TAG at 13.6/8.10/2.14 after 543 hands.

Party Poker 1.00/2.00 Hold'em (10 handed) link

Preflop: Hero is Button with 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
UTG calls, 1 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 raises, 2 folds, Hero calls, 1 folds, BB calls, UTG calls, MP1 calls.

Flop: (10.50 SB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, MP1 checks, MP2 bets, Hero calls, BB calls, UTG calls, MP1 calls.

Turn: (7.75 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, MP1 checks, MP2 bets, Hero calls, BB folds, UTG folds, MP1 folds.

River: (9.75 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP2 bets, Hero raises...
Final Pot: 13.75 BB.

When I look back at it, the only properly played street looks to be the river. Should I have bet on every single street? Is it even close?

BONUS! Rank the missed bets, from least costly to most costly.

My thoughts:
Least costly: Flop 3-bet.
2nd: Turn 3-bet.
Most costly: Pre-flop 3-bet.

yeah

just raise the flop and hope he has AA/AK and not KK.

i think just coldcalling preflop was good against this guy in this situation

Least costly is easily not 3betting preflop against a very tight raiser.

Most costly is by far not raising the turn.

BTW, the flop and turn plays would not be 3bets, they'd be raises.

*grunch*

Sets want to be played fast. Don't slowplay. Even on a quite ragged board like this. I see a lot of people on pp recently who start raising their sets on the river.
You can be easily outdrawn with a set. That's why you want to raise on the flop. The early stages are where a set earns most. So you do not mind to eliminate some of those 4 opponents. One might successfully chase his backdoor-flush or gutshot straight. You don't want to let these people get away cheaply.

And you never know who is still in the hand to pay you off on the river. All those who missed their draws will fold. Those who hit with the last card will beat you. So you depend on bad players calling with any pair or less.
Therefore the call on the turn is an even bigger sin in my eyes.
So raise flop and raise turn. Sets are not invincible. The Pot is huge. Protect your hand!!!

Seems like I've been seeing a lot slowplay-type posts lately. Here is a quicky article in cardplayer with examples of when you should or shouldn't. In most cases, the answer is "shouldn't" (i.e. multiway pots, non-monsters, etc).

I like the preflop cold call.

Absolutely 100% raise the flop IMO. You will get cold callers a lot of the time here, they just have to see what the turn will bring. Would be super if PFR then 3bets and you get to cap.
