would you play in this live game ... how much would you buyin for

I don't live anywhere near a live poker room, but a local tavern hosts a weekly tourney and after the tourney they break out the cash games. I have only played in the tourney and watched a little of the cash games for about 3 weeks now.

$1/$2 NL (usually 8-10 players) everyone buys in short (some as low as $20) but there is usually around 1k - 2k in chips in play to start the night

mitigating factors:
1. it's illegal - noone has asked what happens to your buyin cash if the cops come a knocking

2. house takes 10% of every pot with a $20 max

3. every winning hand is tipped at least a dollar sometimes 2-5 dollars (money not coming back into play and if everyone is there with their whole roll this is a problem)

4. they are all fish and they are all drunk -- ie lots of calling stations / raising with crap

I doubt it. Party Poker is still available and the illegality + short stacks + insane rake make Party seem more attractive to me.

I wouldn't play in the game. That ridiculous rake and that you can actually get busted for it are too much for me.

I'm more fortunate than you though, because I'm close to local card clubs if I feel the need to play against live fish, and I play in various home games occasionally too.

But even without those, I'd just rather play online than deal with those risks.

outrageous rake + expensive drinks make this not profitable for me.

a $20 max for $1/$2 is outradeously high.

HIJACK, what about a 1/2 NL with a $4 half hourly rate. Doesn't seem worth it to me but friends swear it is.

It's better than Foxwoods which I hear is definitely worth it even at its killer $5/half hr.

You didn't mention that. In that case, I'd say no. I don't really understand why people play live poker except with friends anyways because internet poker is so much more convenient and you can play multiple tables, though.

How often do these terrible players buy back in once they get busted?
