Dealing with the $100 max buy in for $1-$2 NL at Foxwoods
 

The $1-$2 NL at Foxwoods has $100 max buy-in AND charges $5 per half hour table time, which makes it really tough for me to play my normal game. I find my stack diminishing really quickly and not having enough ammo to make moves. I wind up playing tight-weak and trying to maintain a small stack. It seems like playing very aggressive and trying to double up (with the risk of busting out) might be a better strategy - almost like playing a rebuy tournament. Thoughts?

My thoughts are :1
1) I was once in the same position as you, then i realized, why am i trying to make moves on 1/2 players?
2) The game is the softest game in the US, there's no need to make moves!

What are other player's stacks like? I think the best idea would be to try to double up ASAP if there are some other 200+ stacks on the table, so you can actually play some poker v. them, and take even more money.

You can also buy in for $40, tip the dealer or waitress a buck, then buy in for $100 more, giving you a $139 starting stack.

That's a great idea. Can you also reload to $100 at any time? Or can you only buy more chips when you get below $40?

Always fun for a half hour or so while you're waiting for your quality limit table to open up...

And, yes, it is arguably one of the best games in the world ... yet I only try to commando in for short periods of time.

Agree 100%. I'm trying to make Miller's short-stack strategy work, and I have no reason to think it won't make me lots of money, enough to well offset $10/hr.

Unfortunately, no. You can only rebuy when you drop below $40. It royally sucks when you are sitting with $50-$60 and aren't allowed to rebuy.


Actually, I should say its only legal to rebuy when you're under $40. I've seen lots of players slip redbirds into their stacks from their pockets.

Over the past 3 months I have been to Foxwoods 16 times playing only the $1/$2 NL games. I put 15 red $5 chips in my pocket and pay the time out of my pocket. During the 140+ hours of play I have had exactly 2 dealers refuse to let me pay from my pocket and force me to pay from my stack.
