Where the heck did the term \"donk\" come from anyway?

Took a break from serious poker for a bit. Now I'm back and I see the term "donk" used to refer to bad players. I had never seen this before.

A funny word indeed, but where did it originate? Just curious...

short for donkey, but beyond that, you'll need to find someone who is cooler and more into the "scene" than I.

And that my friend, will be hard to do.

"Donk" is derived from the Latin "donkey" and means "to donk" or "to act as if one were a donkey." Donks typically spend their time at the various online "poker rooms." They may be found at any level of play.

"Donks" may be distinguished from your garden-variety online monkey based on how often they "colddonk" or "donkfend" or raise "under-the-donk" with any two sooted. The best defense one has against a "donk" is to post numerous bad-beat posts on a suitable "internet chat board" while making sure to emphasis the heinous nature of the "donkout."

Yeah, I think you might be wrong, seeing as I don't have an icon in PT thats a donkey.

In the Stu Ungar movie (High Roller) he uses this line describing the NL scene in LV. "Most of these donkies still think it's about the cards". I'm not sure if the donk term was prevalent before the movie or not though?

This is the real answer

It was developed by Brad (bdk3clash) a few months ago. As to exactly where he got it, I'm not sure, and I suspect he'll chime in.
