\"Do You Have the Jack\"

Three of us in a pot at the end. (40-80). Button has been betting and the two of us have been calling all the way. I'm in the big blind and first to act. Board ends up:

J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I bet out and the 3rd man folds. Button takes a long time and finally asks, "You have the jack, Andy?"

I'm usually at a loss what to say or do here. This time I winked and said, "What to you think?"

How do you guys deal with something like this if you want him to call? Or to fold?

Thanks.

I was hoping this was going to be a post where you showed you had the J and he called and showed just a 7.

just say no with a deadpan stare, or just say nothing.

or... i like this, answer his question with a question, but about something totally different. like, ask him if he likes strawberries.

if you want him to fold say nothing. just say nothing and look comfortable. or say what you said.

if you want him to call look confused for a second, then look at him then look at the board and say as if you just had an epiphany, "oh, a jack...well i guess i could" kinda goofily and that should be enough to get him to call. unfortunately, the call ones you can only use one time ... and sometimes you have to say SOMETHING when you dont have it and want him to fold b/c they will quickly figure out if you say nothing they should call and if you are talking they should fold.

A good mooning usually does the trick.

So, did you have the jack?

I usually just say "of course" since they always tend to call there. I usually add some sort of off-color remark to the "of course" - works like a charm.

If I want a guy to fold, I usually say nothing and do nothing, but look comfortable.

If I want a guy to call, I tip the dealer in advance. This never EVER fails.

ooh... you nailed this one. the pre-tip. this is the correct answer.

"So, did you have the jack?"

No, I didn't. I wouldn't have just been check-calling with a jack? Fortunately, he didn't figure this out.

I dunno. I've seen guys fold when the other guy pre-tips the dealer.
