level os skill, on-live vs. live

On another forum, a well respected member made this statement:

I play much higher live since the quality of competition is weaker. I compare 1/2 online to 10/20 live as far as caliber of play.
The 20/40 games I play are weaker than the 5/10 online games

Wow. That is an amazingly bold statement, one I've not heard elsewhere. Has anyone else noticed a strikingly differant level of skill among players, on-line vs. live?

Wow. That is an amazingly bold statement, one I've not heard elsewhere.

It is a statement that is oft repeated on this board. I've only recently begun playing live and the difference is night and day. I posted a trip report following my first live session right here.

Basically the 5/10 game played like an online microlimit game. I've moved up to the 10/20 game and I concur wholeheartedly with the poster you quoted - it plays like an online dollar game (2/4 if the game is tight).

The downside is the speed of the live game. I've played live 4 or 5 times now and the novelty is wearing off. I enjoy it because I can play profitably at a higher limit than I would online... but the pace is brutal.
