Party $100+$9 early dilemma
 

Blinds are 25/50. I have 880 chips. I haven't seen a hand since the start of the tournament. I have to be considered to be SUPER tight at this point. Villain is new to the table in MP1. He has 970 in chips.

I'm UTG with two black Queens. I raise to 175. Villain pushes. All fold to me. What do you do and why?

I kinda want to ask how the villain has been playing, but really it wouldn't factor into my decision b/c I'm calling here close to 100% of the time.

If the villian is new to the table, he doesn't necessarily view you as super-tight.

I was faced by a similar situation a couple days ago only i was probably viewed as aggressive after a few nice hands, I called without hesitation, of course villain showed KK and my tournament ended but even so I dont think it was an error to call.

I'd call. I think the chances of seeing AK or a smaller pair greatly outweight AA/KK both because of the number of those possible hands and the fact that many people would not push AA/KK there.

Zoot,

Almost the exact same thing happened to me last night at FullTilt. I raised 4x the blind and the button came over the top of me. I called for all my chips and sure enough KK. Good night.

only 880 in chips, 175 of them in the middle and needing to double up. this is an easy call. i would be begging someone to put me in preflop

FeNeF, I understand that. Just a habit giving as much background info as possible. So many posters don't do it and it is very annoying.

Everyone else... I agree that it seems to be an easy call against an unknown. In the smaller buyin tournaments, this is a no brainer. I just thought players would be better in the 100+9.

I made the call and villain showed A8o... so it was a good call. My problems here are that I thought play was better at these higher buyins, and an UTG raise usually means a pretty big hand, so a middle position allin would generally mean a monster and finally the guy gave me a lot of grief for not laying it down, LOL. In any case, I'm really not good enough to lay down QQ in that situation, and I'm glad I didn't [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
