All sports announcers seem to be hated these days. But, I think Irvin is hated a little more than usual. So, this story should make the haters smile.

PLANO, Texas (AP) -- Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after police searched his vehicle during a traffic stop, Plano police said Sunday.

Irvin, a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for speeding in Irving after being pulled over Friday afternoon for speeding in Plano, the Plano Police Department said. Police spokesman Mike Johnson said he didn't know what kind of paraphernalia was found.

Irvin paid a fine on the speeding ticket and posted bond on the drug paraphernalia possession charge. He was released about an hour after he was pulled over.

Irvin, a member of three Super Bowl championship teams with the Cowboys, retired in July 2000 and works as a studio analyst for ESPN.

An ESPN spokesman had no immediate comment.

In 1996, Irvin pleaded no contest to felony cocaine possession in exchange for four years of deferred probation, a $10,000 fine and dismissal of misdemeanor marijuana possession charges.

Irvin holds Cowboys records for catches (750), receiving yards (11,904) and 100-yard games (47), including a team-record seven in a row in 1991

i actually drove by this going home. sucks he still has problems, he's a nice guy about as a good a father a druggie could be (if that means anything, prolly not).

Per the article, stopped for speeding, they found a warrant for speeding. Presumably he was arrested on the warrant. Once arrested on the warrant the car is going to be searched either as a search incident to arrest or an impound inventory. Usually search incident to arrest. Customary and routine.

Anyone else think this could really hurt his broadcast career?

He had a really bad rep 5 years ago which he seemed to successfully rehab, but if this story gets big, i think he loses his job, or is scaled back at least.

Every time I read an article about an NFL player, or former player, getting arrested I remember that cornerback, I think it was Ty Law, if I'm not mistaken, who tried to outrun a fat cop with 50 lbs. of gear and couldn't. When the cop tackled him (how funny is that) he yelled, "don't touch me" or something to that effect.

Its amazing that people like him, with his off the feild history, get a job in broadcasting to begin with.

I wonder why he said this. Is it not politically correct to say they found marijuana resign? How can you not know what drug was being used.

Not only that, but he still can rarely talk without sounding like a thug. You can't tell me he's the best option, off-field problems aside.

wow, a lot of hate for Irvin on here. I was not a fan of his while he was playing, but I think he has cleaned up his act since retiring. Hopefully this gets sorted out.

Just FYI, Plano, Tx is a small suburb just north of Dallas. What makes Plano so special? Filled with Heroin kids. Several years back MTV even sent their True Life camera crew down there to show the different students buying H and shooting up. They filmed these 2 young dudes (prob 19-20) breaking into cars (daylight hours) to steal stereo units so they could buy another hit of H. I knew a girl that went to the high school in the late 90's when they had the huge crackdown after about 8 students overdosed and died that school year.
