Why do I call when I know I\'m beat ??

I just finished a session where I made two calls after I said to myself, you're beat. Ok, so I know I'm beat and I still call. WTF is my problem? Last hand I have AA, the table tightass calls, 10-8-2 rainbow, I bet pot and he comes over the top all-in (alot more to call) I know he has a set but I call.

Anyone have advice how to fix this calling problem ????

Stop worrying about being bluffed and trust your reads.

Accept the fact that every once in a while you will fold the best hand.

10-8-2 rainbow and you KNOW he has a set?

You're better than me... I think any nl player goes broke here. Why would he go all-in with a huge overbet if he had a set on this flop?

Next time you're in this situation just fold your aces preflop or play them for set value (unless on an A 9 9 board... he probably has quads).

I used to have this problem alot worse than I do now.
Link to me posting the same Question 6 months ago

schroedy's advice in the thread is what helped me the most

Some things I've done to fix it are:

Realize the pot doesen't belong to me until I show the best hand at showdown or all of my opponets fold. I used to feel like I deserved the pot. Now I realize that my opponets should sometimes "rightfully" win the pot.

Quit caring so much. Realize in the scheme of things it matters very little if you win this pot or not. It's about the bottom line. The end of the month or year. Have fun. You are there to out think people.

Pause and think before EVERY large call. THis one thing has saved me thousands of dollars. Stoping the auto call because I am too anxious to think straight.

I'm sure there is more as this used to be a huge leak in my game and now it is a fairly small one.

Don't know if this will help, but---
When you get in this spot, pretend you are teaching a relative to play poker. They show you this hand and ask you what to do.

What do you tell them?

Then do it yourself.

And in reality these lessons are essential, I believe you can't learn how to play a hand until you play it wrong a few times and go back and wonder WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING? Knowing you've made a mistake is the first step in the road to recovery.
