You have no idea how much I want to fold.

BUT WHERE!?!?! Flop 3 better is very aggressive. Raiser is not so much so

Re: You have no idea how much I want to fold.

You can fold the flop because you have the BB in too. This is very similar to a river overcall situation (read SSH). You can definitely call profitably when it's just the button, but with BB already in and looking like he's going to showdown, you can probably just let him take it. If he shows down some trash, then it's probably time to adjust your read on him.

if the A was the club instead of the 8, does that change anything?

As in you have A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]? Nah, runner-runner draws aren't that helpful here because it's costing you so much. If you had a one card flush draw to the 8, I might consider calling.

I still like the flop fold myself. I find the cost to call down is just too high.

Re: You have no idea how much I want to fold.

I'm probably folding to the 2 bets cold on the flop.
If my read is enough that I feel okay staying in for 2 more 'just in case' then I might fold for just the one more bet when the BB caps it because I know he's pretty gosh-darned serious and I'm probably beaten.

Based on the flop action I'm considering the chances that it will cost more than 1 bet on the turn and river to stay in and I'm just going to cut my losses now.

If I had the good hand (and I think we've all had the experience of folding winners before...oh well, it happens) then lesson learned and I make a note of what they had.

after you decide to stay in then calling down just 1 bet on the turn looks reasonable.
Maybe it's an A3 that just got counterfeited by the J vs. a flush-draw.

But on the river when it's a bet AND a call then I'm guessing I am beaten.
Am I really going to be good here about 7% of the time?
Somehow I don't think so.

but I have a tendency to occasionally fold winners when there are 2 other players still in the hand on the river THINKING that my top-pair with crappy kicker couldn't possibly have a chance anymore.

I'd be interested in what these players had (when your ready to spill the beans).

Fold to the flop three bet when you have to call two getting an expected 5.5:1 but may have to call a cap also.

Release on the flop. No regrets.

This is a very easy fold. I'd release on the flop, but given you saw the turn, the J makes it way too likely you're dead.
