Chopping if you are the best player?
 

Is it a good idea to chop towards the end of a tournament if you are the best player but are shortstacked.

Example 4 of us played a 10 dollar winner take all tournament structure. It got down to me and another player and I know I am a better player than him but he had a 2-1 chip lead on me. If we were to chop properly the breakdown would have been $30 for him and $10 for me but we split the $40 50/500. So I thought it was a good chop because I was shortstacked but I know I could probably outplay him. Another factor was that the blinds were 100/200 and I had about 2000 and he had about 6000. So We had 10 BB and 20 BB respectively.
So my question is was it good to chop evenly when I was a 2-1 chip underdog with 10 BB but I knew I was a better player.

One of the math whizzes can probably give you the exact number, but if you are down 2/1 in chips you are NOT anywhere near 3:1 to lose even if your skills are about even with the other player. I'd guess it's more about 60:40.
Any math genius types want to give it a shot?

Yeah it is a good chop for you, but a bad one for him. With a 2:1 chip lead and big blind to stack ratios, it would be very tough for him to be even money. Unless he literally folded every hand, he would almost surely be about a 3:2 favorite (at worst). It is tough to get a big edge where there is only 30 BB sitting on the table unless the villian folds everything but the best of hands.
