has anyone ever done research into the legality of a cardroom. Perhaps one that would be like a private club where people would pay a membership fee and be charged by the hour for there seat? I know they have one in NYC and I know a few backdoor cardrooms behind pool halls and such, but does anyone have information or have done any research into thiis. Any info would be appreciated......GOOD LUCK!!!

I think a couple of clubs were busted in NYC recently. If I read the articles right, in NY, at least, the owner of the card room can't make any money at all.

The legality of card rooms is governed by State law. What state are you talking about?

Also, why are you asking?

I am in New Jersey. I know there was a place in Sayreville that was a card room that isnt there anymore. I looked some things up and I know that they shut a place down in Minnesota but the place sued and now the run full time games because there was no law against it. I think that New Jersey may perhaps be easier because of the legalized gambling, but then again you may alo face more resistance. But, if it were a private club then would they have any right to shut it down???? My friend was down in Texas a couple weeks ago and found a couple places that were the membership policy and they seemed to squeeze by fine.

Why not just phone the police and ask them ?
