[ QUOTE ]
Six of the world's best poker players will compete for the $80 million kitty, with the winner to take all in a series of elimination matches in July. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Players will pay $US10 million each to buy into the match, he said. [/ QUOTE ] Oh yeah, there's no way they're gonna chop that ish up. |
Re: $60 million tournament
This is still retarded. Why would even the top pros risk that much when they could have a really bad 6-hour run of cards??

[/ QUOTE ] Well there's a 20 million dollar overlay. Presumably they will forbid chopping or you'd probably see a six way chop. With a winner take all format, it's hard to see how they get six players. In Sklanksy bucks, it might make sense, if you figure you win one out of six you're 5-1 to win and getting a 7-1 payday (and a guy like Ivey probably figures he's something like 2-1 against to win), but given the stakes and that there are a limited number of these tourneys, it looks like a proposition few players would be bankrolled or inclined to take on. --Zetack |

Well there's a 20 million dollar overlay. [/ QUOTE ] Hadn't heard this. A huge overlay is the only way I could see anyone putting up that much money. |
Re: $60 million tournament
Once you pay taxes on that $60 million how much overlay is left? No way anyone plays in this without a chop beforehand.

Re: $60 million tournament
I wouldn't be surprised is fox is paying everyone a 10mil appearance fee to cover the entry costs

Home of the soon-to-be-built "Pokerdome". Heh.
Didn't monster truck racing die out because of overexposure like this? |

[/ QUOTE ] Did you seriously just compare poker to monster truck racing? [/ QUOTE ] No, not poker, just overhyped, over-the-top events like a $60 million SNG with something called a "Pokerdome". It just reeks of cheesiness. |

[ QUOTE ] Well there's a 20 million dollar overlay. [/ QUOTE ] USD 60M = AUD 80M. No overlay, just sloppy writing in the article. Adde [/ QUOTE ] Well, if they're quoting the pool in AUD then wouldn't the $10 million entry fee be in AUD also? Enquiring minds want to know. |

[/ QUOTE ] Well, I'm no expert, but coming from an aussie news site I'd guess they don't print out AUD when speaking of their own currency ("the $80 million kitty"), and I'd guess they do when speaking about foreign currenicies ("Players will pay $US10 million"). Quoted from mansionpoker.net:
"The state-of-the-art dome contains a poker table, complete with an automated card tracking system, integrated chip counting capabilities, hole card-cam and robotic cameras focused on each player's face. The Pokerdome also comes equipped with special cameras and card technology that allows viewers to see the burn cards - or discarded cards - before dealers flip the active cards, plus a rabbit-hunting camera for each hand, letting fans know what would have happened if each hand went to completion."
