Live a long life

I read recently where the two strongest correlations for a long life is the age of your parents when they die and excersice. So I bought my parents a membership to the gym.

Funny on so many levels.

Heredity may be a factor, but having your parents exercise after you are born...

My mom passed away at age 85 recently. Never exercised. Smoked for 70 years. Her four food groups were coffee, Entenmann's, eggs and "hot dish" (casseroles for those outside Minesota). My father is 84. Never exercised or smoked. But his food groups were cholesterol, salt, more cholesterol and more salt.

Look at George Burns...

On the other hand you have guys like Jack Lalanne. Age 90-something. Worked out all his life. Tows tugboats with his teeth on his birthdays for fun...

Or how about Jim Fixx. Big runner and exercise guy. Died of a heart attack while running at age 50...

When your time is up, you'll go. Eating right and exercising
can't hurt, but don't think that it is a guaranty for immortality.

Your anecdotal evidence is extremely weak. Of course exercise isn't a gurantee. But it certainly cleans up a few of your outs.

It also depends on how quickly medical science may advance. Those extra two years (to take a number out of the air) tacked on the end given today's science may be extended to 10 years (or more) as we learn how to cure cancer and/or repair organs, cells, etc.

My point is some people exercise like maniacs and die young anyway and some don't do a dam thing and live long and vice versa.

I'm not saying a healthy lifestyle is a waste of time. I'm just saying heredity plays a big role. Medical science is playing a bigger factor every year. Another big thing is one's outlook and mental health.

I guess nobody found the OP's post content funny.

The Secret to a Long Life

Calorie restriction with optimal nutrition. There is more evidence to support this than any other method.

I think that was a smart move and should add years to your life. However the big problem with Living Longer is that you will eventually die from it.
