ShowBoat Atlantic City/WSOP circuit event

Hello All,

It has been a good five years since I been to Atlantic City.

I was wondering if anyone can give any insight to what the Showboat is like or would recommend any of the other nearby hotels as I am thinking about playing in some of the circuit events.

Thanks to all who respond.

The showboat is a really nice room, it's not that popular though (i've been there and they didnt even have one game going, though weekends are usually busy there) but I expect it to pick up after the WSOP.

It's mostly a low-limit room and the players are typically terrible. They run the Sit and Go's like most of the casinos are doing now.

I have friends in the area so I can't tell you too much about the hotels.

O'Doyal - what is your daily hotel budget? I think that determines what the best recommendation would be. Showboat went through a recent renovation thanks to the HOB, but from my understanding the rooms are still average at best.

The Rooms are ok at the boat, Taj is right next door [good luck getting a room] and resorts is 2 hotels down also somewhat ok.
If you plan to play cash during that time call the taj see if they will rate you the room [10/20 or higher 4 hours aday]
Shoboats poker room is pretty nice too I must add. To bad the biggest game going there is a 1/2 NL game lol

I just went to the Showboat for the first time about a week and a half ago. It's not as pretty as the other casinos, and the card room is rather small compared to others there (like Bally's, Borgata, and the Trop). As previously mentioned, most games are low limit like $2/4 limit, $1/2 no-limit, etc. It's not very popular. It was a Friday night, and I got a $1/2 no-limit seat immediately. At the Borgata, it would have been about a 40-person wait for the same type of game.

I found that the players at the Showboat were not very good compared to elsewhere, and it seemed easier to win off them. However, they were much more friendly, and I think more of them were there for fun more than they were there to make money. Maybe that's good for you if it's what you're looking for. That's how I like it.

Since my wife will be with me if I go, a nice room and casino will take precedence over my budget. I guess I should have phrased my question better to reflect that. It still would need to be in close proximity to the Showboat.

Close is of course all relevant. If you want nice and close, I would recommend staying at the Sheraton (no casino), its probably the closest nice casino to the Showboat. Other than that, the only nice place to stay is either a suite at the Taj (expensive, forget about the poker rate on this one), a suite at Resorts (same deal, no poker rate), or cab it back and forth to the Bellagio - what many of the others who are attending the tournament will be doing.

Sorry for the thread hijack but.....

does anyone know what the cap is for the Monday 11/28 tourney ($300 + $40)?

That room isn't that big (I would guess 30 tables or so) I'm wondering what time I should get there to register for the noon start. (My first live tourney...yay.)
