Bringing in 1000+BB at a small stakes limit table

Ever since I've started I notice people choosing to buyin for say $100 at a 0.02/0.04 table. Just tonight I saw a 2+2er who I never respected, but thought better of do the same (bringing $500 more to the 0.25/0.50 table after losing a few bucks), while tilting very badly while berating a fish.

What do you think these players are trying to do by bringing in hundreds for a small stakes limit (hold'em) game?

They are trying to pump up their own egos by saying "Look what I have!"

I think it is the same mentality of people that put spinner hubcaps on a beater car.

I thought I was being presumptious, but my thoughts ar ethe same about the stacks. I almost always immediately lose any respect for any player that does this.

I disagree with the car analogy though, because it looks cool.

The spinner hubcaps look cool on the right car. But not a 1977 Dodge Dart.

It says to me: I've got all this money to gamble with, yet I'm still only good enough to play at these stakes.

I have noticed that the player gets a lot of action and him showing all that $$ puts some others on tilt.

One example - I was playing low limit at a B&M and a guy bought in for 150 BBs and built this huge chip pyramid. It really pissed off some of the old grumps and they were endlessly taking shots at him and berating him for buying for so many chips. He just calmly played away and broke a couple of them and it absolutely drove them crazy.

I have noticed that when someone does it online, there are always a couple other players who make derogatory comments toward that player. So it obviously upsets some people.

So maybe some do it to try to promote action and put others on tilt?

I actually tested this out AND changed my nickname on party

Before my nickname was something mundane
After my nickname was PokarIsEasy

I sat at .5/1 tables with 25, 100, and 500 dollars, all with similar table stats, this is by no means scientific, but I tried... about 500 hands at each condition

I got more action with a memorable nickname initially because people remember the name when I play a hand and think Im raising too much and am cocky or something of that nature.. but after a few orbits they realize I played solidly and remembered not to get involved with "PokarIsEasy" whereas a name like akdf231 is harder to remember

I got most action with the 500 dollar stack because people just assumed I was tilting or could afford to bluff or raised trash

I got the least with the 100 dollar stack. It isnt too asinine, and it commands some respect "Hey, this guy has enough to bring 100 bets to the table, he must be in this for the long run"

Cool experiment, thanks for trying it out. Of course we need more people to try it, but I'm surprised you got little action with your $100 name.
