The British mag 'Empire' just released a poll of the top 10 of all-time.

5. Ridley Scott (wtf?)

7. Peter Jackson
8. Tarantino

10. Woody Allen

so sad.

there's no way this could have been a poll of anyone other than fans. no 'film person' in their right mind would rank QT, Peter Jackson, and Ridley Scott over Orson Welles, Woody Allen, and the 15 or so legends that didn't make the cut (Howard Hawks and Bergman say hello).

Kurosawa is the best director of all time, in my view.

Most of the great directors have a couple masterpieces. Kurosawa had 6.

exactly. he did some horror movies and "Heavenly Creatures", which is really good and happens to be Kate Winslet's first film.

Kubrick and Kurosawa are way too low. Not taking anything away from Spielberg's vision. But when you have a director take the genius vision of another director, and try to interpret it, "AI" happens. [img]/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]

Tarantino? Over John Ford or Billy Wilder? I wouldn't put him in the top ten of current directors, much less an all-time list.
