going to both these places pretty soon, anyone been to either of those? tell me about them the more detail the better.

Thailand, just pray it's warm, think it is above the equator, so it is winter. And don't try obtain drugs or do anything involving drugs in thailand. Their maximum punishment is death penalty and life in prison is not uncommon even for small amounts.

I haven't been to either but in Thailand it's the busy season, which might make you more susceptible to getting ripped off. Be careful with your money, maybe do some research before you leave. I wanna go to Thailand too but the plane ticket is $1K+.

I just got back from Costa Rica yesterday. It was freaking sweet. It's pretty easy to get around and all the locals (they're called Ticos) are friendly. They don't hassle tourists like a lot of other countries.

There's not much to do during the day in San Jose, but El Pueblo at night is pretty sweet. There are tons of clubs and restaurants and they're all open till around 4am. We went to a place called Twister which was cool, but the bar called Friends sucked.

Whitewater rafting was really cool, and I'd definitely recommend the canopy tours. I also hung out in Jaco for a day. Beaches there sucked, surf was really good, nightlife was good but there were a lot of pro's. I spent the rest of my trip in Montezuma, which was really cool. Sort of a hippy hideaway, nice beaches and a couple cool bars. You can get away with boardshorts and flipflops basically all day & night. There were a couple cool waterfalls you could hike to as well about a mile outside of town.

Oh, don't forget the airport charges you a $26 exit fee as you leave. They only take Visa or cash for the fee.

Definitely try the Imperial beer too, it's probably like their Budweiser, but it was good.

I can only assume that while Jay in thailand, he got thrown in jail and got a disease from a transvestite.

Costa Rica can be great if you stick to the west coast. The east coast has more than it's share of gang activity, and San Jose is a cesspool.

The nicest part of the entire country is the Manuel Antonio National Park region in the southwest. Between the town of Quepos and the park is a small but nice motel called El Mono Azul. It is run by an American woman who used to teach at Berkley, but she had hippy tendencies......so, she built a motel in the jungle. The Pizza (?) is the best I've ever eaten.
Anyway, it's a short walk to the beach and National Forest or a short bus ride to Quepos (Casinos, Drugs).
White water rafting outfit is right across the street. You can see all of the wildlife in the national forest, about a mile away.

Oh, and don't leave your bags unattended. The locals won't take anything, but the monkeys will.
