Canterbury expansion?

Sen. Dean Johnson, Democratic majority leader in the MN Senate, was just on the local news with his latest proposed compromise in the state budget debacle. Among other things, in exchange for no Racino, he will go for an expansion to 100 tables at Canterbury. He made it clear that he considers this to be morally equivalent to legalized drugs, but he will go along with it.

Re: Canterbury expansion?

Why would Canterbury WANT 100 tables? So there can be 90 empty during slow times?

Why? So they can get rake during the busy times instead of having 2-3 hour waits. Said waits make people like me think twice about driving 40 minutes just to wait 2 hours for a table. If I knew that I would be seated fairly quickly I would go down more often.

I totally agree. This is the reason I stay away from there on weekend nights.

Speaking of which. What's the difference in "softness" between weekdays and weekends there? Does it really matter if I'm planning to play 2/4?

dickhead -

I doubt it'll go thru anyways...Pawlenty is pretty firm about stuff -

and don't forget - 100 tables also counts the ones in the back - so maybe you'd see a double in the size of the tables/games, which on weekends could be filled -

they let them add NL games, you'd see even more action...

Yah, just like he's so firm on his no new taxes pledge.

On some weekend nights the lists can be 30-40 names deep for low-limit tables, and 20+ names deep for the 6/12 & 8/16. With only a few 15/30 and 30/60 games available, you can easily wait 2-3 hours for a seat on the weekend, even when there are only a dozen names on the list.

Re: Canterbury expansion?

I think there are less than 20 tables in the back. It seems that 100 would be overkill, especially once the room in Anoka opens (later this year?)

Trust me, I hate waiting two hours on a Friday or Saturday night as much as anyone, but I don't think this area would support a room twice the current size. Of course if they advertise a larger room, maybe more new players would come which would be a good thing.

And to answer another posters questions, if you want to play 2/4, it really doesn't matter what time you go. You can play 2/4, 3/6 and 4/8 anytime you want against bad players. There will be more tables going at night and on the weekends, but at the low limits table selection doesn't matter a ton.

And no limit would definately increase demand as well, althugh I haven't heard that mentioned. I almost hope it doesn't get approved so it doesn't take people away from the limit games!
