Part timers - what do you do with your winnings?

I don't mean specifics - what's your plan?

Do you roll it all back into your bankroll? Do you take everything above the theoretical 300BB out to spend? Something in between?

I cash out about half of all my winnings to pay for school and taxes and keep the other half to grow my BR

I bought a 2001FP (sweeeeeeet). I'm also planning to upgrade my whole computer when I get enough to do that.

Mostly though I just use my winnings to move up and test myself at higher limits.

It all goes back into my BR. Back during the summer during a time of tilt and general suckage, I cashed out enough to buy me an Inspiron 9300. If I was going to lose all my money, I wanted to at least have something to show for all my "hard" work

I feel like I should know this, but can't figure out why. What's a 2001FP?

In addition to that, I need to get a diamond ring one of these days, so that's something else it will be used for.

Re: Part timers - what do you do with your winnings?

i put it in the bank and periodically check on it to see if it needs anything. i suspect it's losing its race with inflation but it's too proud to ask for help so i'm going the passive aggressive route and i'm not going to say anything first.

in other news, when you sit with 25bb and then win 25bb, do you then think of 25bb as "originally yours" and 25bb as "winnings", or do you think "50bb=mine"?

It's definitely all mine. I don't think of session results as winnings (or losses). I find myself thinking of it in month increments, I guess. So if I had 317BB at the beginning of the month in my roll (and therefore in my online account(s)) and 400 at the end of the month, I would consider that month's winnings to be 83BB.

The decision then comes, what to do with it? Do we put it into the "roll" category and it becomes untouchable, take it out and go by toys/pay bills/whatever, or a little of both?

Personally, I'm still playing at such low limits that the amount won or lost is too insignificant to bother with withdrawing, and it gets reinvested in building my poker funds and skills until I can play at a higher limit and get faced with a meaningful decision

It's a big, flat panel monitor that allows for some nice high resolutions and can be bought at a pretty reasonable price (I paid about $425 for mine). You'll hear it come up again and again on 2+2 because it allows you to 4-table all the major poker sites with no overlap.

I need to get one of these.

I usually take money out only we I want something extra. I used a lot to take a trip to Europe last summer. And this summer I will probably do the same thing, only I want to go to Australia.

I also need to buy a ring for my girl and make her an honest women.

How long have you put it off Jax?

Well, haven't actually put it off at all because I am only 20 and she doesn't want to get married yet either. However, we have been together for 5 years and will probably be getting engaged in 1-2 years, so I'm just planning ahead.

I like to think of it as OPM, Other People's Money. I love playing with OPM.

Re: Part timers - what do you do with your winnings?

In two years I have never withdrawn a cent from my poker/casino bankroll. And since I am wimp I never take shots at higher limits (ie still playing 1/2 after two years). Hence my bankroll is ALOT.

Until my wife decided we really needed a new kitchen.

So the kitchen is done and now the money is earmarked to pay off the credit card when it comes due in 6/12 months.

So I bought a kitchen with my winnings. Would've much prefered having a 2001FP and a nice TV.

Re: Part timers - what do you do with your winnings?

I only play .5/1 and occassionally 1/2, so YMMV. I take out the maximum allowable for the tax deffered contribution to my IRA. Then I invest in variable annuities and equities with long term growth potential. I tuck a little aside to be used as venture capital for small start-ups. Either way, I'm in the market for a truck to haul away my winnings--know anyone? Good question though.

I cash out anything over $500 at the end of each month and buy something "nice" for the family

So far we have had a holiday, Nintendo DS, new PC, and a whole load of other stuff that the normal household budget doesn't really cover!

($500 is enough to max out most bonuses and is 500BB at the limit I play most often!)

Right now I'm just increasing the bankroll. It's gone from $100 to $1200 this year, and I'm thinking of moving up to $2/$4 in Dec.

Hi Nik i spent most of my 1/2 time at the beginners tables and then moved to 2/4. I did play a little regular 1/2 and it seemed every bit as tough as 2/4 but i have a very small sample to judge off of so i am probably not the one to ask. I would have a tough time believing anyone that is beating the 1/2 would have any real problems beating the 2/4 game.

Just general spending money. Though I cashed out all but $1200 or so this summer and went on vacation for 3 weeks (Germany, Paris, Nova Scotia). It was the best possible thing I could have done for myself.

Island vacations - 20 table hours a week - 1/2 to 3/6 - 1 island vacation a year - St. John last year, Antigua this year. And that is only 1/3 of the winnings!!

Them places are not cheap!! 1800 a week for a cottage.

The rest of the $$ goes for toys, Home theatre, lawn mowers, new bathrooms, car, STUFF!

Re: Part timers - what do you do with your winnings?

I actually have a different plan than any other post thus far - I have been taking my cash limit winnings and "investing" them into on-line tournaments. After 4-6 months, I have final tabled & won a few, making me +EV in these low buy-in events. So now I'm thinking of funding a WSOP trip to try one of the earlier lower buy-in events. My winnings are funding a scouting trip to Vegas in January to work on my live tournament play.

I have found 2/4 to be a noticeable jump in quality of opponent. You will still find loose tables, but not as frequently. Two things that helped me:
1. Play tighter until you pick up the feel for the table
2. Play one 2/4 and one 1/2 for awhile to compare.
That said, if you are winning at 1/2, you can definitely be a winner at 2/4. Good Luck!

I just let my roll grow for the time when I maybe decide to do it seriously and step up to 2/4 and 3/6.

I have a well paying job so I don't need the money.

Cool. Around my house we are conflicted about who to cheer for. We live in Switzerland, my son was born in France, my wife in México, and I'm American. All four countries are in. Anyways, PM me if you'd don't know anyone over here as I am sure my son will be up there for some of the games and all of the party. He'll be 18 by then, so probably close to your age?? He's not interested in Poker at all, just girls, rock'n'roll, beer, and "soccer".

Re: Part timers - what do you do with your winnings?

I am planning on seeing how far up I can go in the limits. So no cashouts. I suppose I will eventually get over my head and the TAGs will end up with all my money. I have 10,000 hands under my belt at .50$/1$ and I have just started playing 1$/2$ at Stars under the cover of a bonus.

Hopefully I get good enough to write a book on Poker. I suspect that's where the real money is.

I bought my season pass with it this year. So every time I go boarding on the mountain it's going to make it twice as sweet that I'm doing it with other peoples money. The rest I use on Columbian nasal spray obviously.

Re: Part timers - what do you do with your winnings?

I leave about 400BB at the site for my BR. Will do a cashout when it tickles my fancy to do so, somewhere between 400-1000BB. I did use $100 from winnings to purchase a second 21" monitor capable of 1600x1200 resolution.

Plan to use the rest of the money to supplement the Down Payment and Closing Costs on an investment property. Even though I will be cashing out somewhere near $6500 by the end of year, from playing .50/1.00, this does not make much of a dent considereing current housing prices and rising mortgage rates.

Re: Part timers - what do you do with your winnings?

Winnings? What winnings?

Seriously though... I leave it in as bankroll so I can move up limits. I'd like to get to at least 3/6.

Also, I'd be careful about taking out more than winrate x number of hands. That +75BB session you had this month is just insurance for the -75BB session you're going to have next month.
