88 - I cold call

PF raiser is a tag. Something like 14/12/4.8 over about 100 hands. The 2 cold callers between me and him are loose and fairly passive players. However, they tend to bet when checked too. The turn raise was to push UTG off a hand like 99-QQ.

Re: 88 - I cold call

tough situation....I certainly don't think a 4.8 is checking 99-QQ on this board by the way, but not a bad turn raise either way.... once it gets called u can probably figure that u r behind and figure on not putting another bet into this pot.... I don't neccesarily call this preflop either, I understand that u have odds if u hit a set, but there r so many hand combinations that beat you w/ this many people in, combined w/ the fact that it is a 14/12 that opened, I don't think it's an auto-fold, but not a must call either..... I hope mp3 missed his backdoor flush draw

come on, this is really dumb. i hope you don't rationalize marginal situations this way. nobody 'beats' you preflop, either.

turn raise is easily best if your read is accurate, though many times you can simply fold to MP3's bet.

I'd just toss it on the turn. Your description of the cold callers as loose passive makes me dislike this raise. They will bet when checked to but this isn't a spot where they will be betting a weaker hand very often given the size of the pot and # of players left in the hand. I think its just too likely one of them has a K or 7 and the pot is only 8.25 BBs when you're making this raise.

Given the players you describe, nice hand.

I would fold on the flop, absent more info on MP3.

What do you put MP3 on?

Any PP, ATo+, A9s+, KJo+, KTs+, QJo

He peels with most of these hands on this board too.

And which ones will he bet the turn with?

I'd say any PP, big ace (AQ, AJ), K, 6, or 7. Rule out the 7 when I'm not 3-bet. Although the only 6 or 7 would most likely be a mid suited connector.

Re: 88 - I cold call

Let me guess, you won this hand. But other than preflop and the river, your play makes no sense here.

First, what are you calling the flop for? You have a preflop raiser, an MP caller, and a K on the board. The only worse card that could have flopped would be an A. Calling the flop here is just a "peel and see what happens" leak. The situation would be different if you were heads-up, but you have to fold it 3-ways.

Next, you say you raise the turn to get UTG to fold his 99-QQ. But there's no way someone with stats like 14/12/4.8 checks the turn with 99-QQ. He's betting. So his most likely hand is something like AQ/AJ/AT. Sure, it's definitely worthwhile to get that hand to fold (except that he'd likely check-fold anyway even without your raise), but what are you putting MP3 on? Top pair beats you, middle pair beats you, so you think he has bottom pair or some unpaired crap? Perhaps, but this is really far-fetched.

As long as this is true I think you played this hand perfectly.
