Where to donate winnings?
I was logging out of Party the other day when one of the promotional hands hit and they had their $20K freeroll. Well, the pop-up came up right then and I somehow managed to get registered. Early on I didn't want to play but I told myself if I won something I would donate it to charity. Of course I went on to finish second for $2100. Not one to cheat on such things, I have decided to collectively allow 2+2 to help decide where to send the money.

Salvation army is doing so many things in so many places with a message of caring. I think it would be a great place to donate the money to. Best of luck

Re: Where to donate winnings?
All of my charitable donations go to cancer research, mostly because it runs in the family. Really, one cause is as good as the next. Make it something personal for you.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America - It's the top youth development organization in the country, and it focuses on kids from tough circumstances. Also, it is consistently ranked high in terms of keeping costs to a minimum and getting the money to those who need it.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/ [/ QUOTE ] I second this. But it is your money and you should pick something that is important to you. If you have a hard time picking one, consider spreading it out over a couple of choices. |

Re: Where to donate winnings?
These are the three that mean something to me. Just looking for imput to see what others think.
Do you support an organization that helps the poor and feeds the hungry and houses the homeless - or an organization that reaches out to the terminally ill child to grant them an opportunity to have fun one last time or a group that helps treat addiction. All are worthy. |
Re: Where to donate winnings?
Use the money to enter a 2k tournament. Take any winnings from that and donate a portion of it to your favorite charity. Use the rest to enter more tournaments. Pay your expenses out of your winnings. This way you get to enjoy along with your favorite charity the fruits of your labor.

All are worthy. [/ QUOTE ] Agreed, I was just trying to be helpful. Many people are not aware that some charitable organizations spend way too little of the $$$ collected on the intended recipients. I did not look up any of the organizations you listed nor was I making judgments about them. |
Re: Where to donate winnings?
I can't believe nobody has said something like, "donate it to account 'xxxxx' at party poker, etc.
congratulations on your win. have you ever had a relative struggle with something? disease, poverty, homelessness, etc? if i had an extra 2100 i would donate it to cancer research. just make sure they treat the money well. |

As trite as it may sound, I've always found that when I'm in that giving mood, something always presents itself...
Keep your ears open and know you don't have to necessarily give it to a "big organization," but there may be small ones, right in your own community, doing good work to help people right in your area. Sadly enough, there is never a shortage of people in need. (For more on this subject, Sports Night had an excellent episode in their run dealing with just this thing.) Seriously, I have been donating monthly to the CCF (Christian Children's Fund) and have really gotten alot out of it. Our family now exchanges letters with a family in Africa and we send lots of toys and things for the children in this particular family. Money too, obviously. A couple hundred makes no difference to most of us, but its a huge deal for them. Im an atheist, BTW. Tuco. |
