River value raise.

5/10 HE, new to the table, but villain has been limping most of the hands I've seen (6-7 hands). Involved in one pot where I raised KTo, continuation bet on a Q-high board, and bet-folded a three-flush turn against this guy.

Dealt QTs hearts in MP3, villain limps UTG+1, folded to me, I raise, folded to villain who calls.

Flop comes Qxx monotone spades, villain checks, I bet, villain calls. Turn comes another low spade, villain checks, I check behind intending to call any river/bet if checked to. River comes a T, and villain bets.

I just called, but this is an easy raise, right? Villain is loose enough that he won't laydown on the same street after betting even without a spade, and I can easily fold to a three-bet.

If he's that loose, he's not going to fold a random spade here, which is what we are really hoping to do by raising IMO.

raising this river sucks because you will so rarely get a call from a worse hand.

Re: River value raise.

You can raise here if your ahead 55% of the time he CALLS. Most likely he has a spade and you'll lose, sometimes he'll be bluffing and fold, and rarely he'll call with a lesser one or two pair hand.

He doesn't have a non-flush calling hand anywhere close to 55% of the time here, you cannot raise for value.
