What is a nit?
 

I've been seeing the term "nit" being used alot and I'm not sure what it means.

A nit is a person who picks at minor, often irrelavent details. Derived from "picking nits" or "nit-picking"

A nit in poker terms is a rather straight foward unimaginative player. Why they get a derrogatory nickname is beyond me as they usually go home with the money. They don't win large and usually don't lose large. That's are far as I interpret it

A tight passive. Usually ultra tight, to the point that it lowers thier EV. They fold to often, they aren't aggressive enough.

Let's say you post

"I have AK, and the flop is AKK, so it checks to me and I raise, should I have tried slowplaying?"

A nit will respond

"You BET, you didn't raise"

Choosing to focus on some insignificant detail of symantics rather than the core question at hand.
