Art Brut - Bang Bang Rock and Roll - funny, catchy pop rock
The Boy Least Likely To - The Best Party Ever - quirky pop

[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with most of your choices, but I really don't like either of these (though I do enjoy the first track on The Best Party Ever). Art Brut's vocals just grate on my nerves, though I suppose a few more listens might help me get used to them.

What do you think of "Feels"?

I liked some of Feels ("Did you see the words," "grass"). "the bees" is the worst song ever.

I wouldn't go as far as "worst song ever", but it's good to see someone who kind of agrees. I adore anything Animal Collective does with a decent share of energy, but their slow, atmospheric stuff tends to put me to sleep.

All,

I'm surprised none of you are fans of The Wrens or the Old '97s. Maybe Pitchfork hasn't written about them or something.

The Wrens are good (I love The Meadowlands). Not too familiar with the Old '97s.

the wrens are good, just a bit older and I've only heard their most recent album, because their earlier stuff is hard as hell to find.

the meadowlands is awesome. I'm iffy on the old 97's, they just seem like they're benign and don't do much for me.

Art Brut - Bang Bang Rock and Roll - funny, catchy pop rock

Sleater-Kinney - The Woods - Grrl Rock

Art Brut is effing horrible pretentious crap. wtf man.

Sleater-Kinney is pretty cool, although they could improve by changing up their tone a bit. It's like listening to Pennywise.

Seeing as though you're a Zep fan, I guess you're an expert on effing horrible pretentious crap.

Well I'll take my previous comment back (after listening to their songs again), just their singer is bad. Well, actually, I've heard about ten songs of theirs, and they all have the same/similar song and lyric structures.

pre·ten·tious
adj.

1. Claiming or demanding a position of distinction or merit, especially when unjustified.
2. Making or marked by an extravagant outward show; ostentatious.

Which of these apply to Zep? I'm curious.

Oh, no worries, I was just screwin' with ya. I have no problem with Zep.

A lot of it is similar to very familiar to new wavish stuff from my childhood, so if you're not my age or never really listened to Squeeze or the Tom Tom Club, I can understand why.

I think everyone sort of has their own definitions of indie stuff. growing up in nc, the bands I think of are all the merge stuff like archers of loaf, polvo, superchunk, portastatic etc.

Somehow Kings of Leon never gets mentioned in these threads... Their new CD Aha Shake Heartbreak is easily one of my favorites this year.
