A really stupid idea
 

Alright I've been playing poker about a year now online and I won like 20 k this past year playing anywhere from 2/4-10/20 (10/20 in the very loose but aggressive games at Pacific).... At party I've really only played the2/4 and 3/6 games (usually 6-10 tables at a time) and I have been doing well 2.71 BB over 30 K hands. I'm trying to move up limits and I've been watching higher tables and I really think I can beat the 15/30 game...I've noticed the 5/10 and 10/20 games are pretty tight tho...is this due to a small sample of observing or is there any truth to this? Also, a jump from 3/6 to 15/30 probably seems comical I'm sure but my goal is to accumulate a decent bankroll over time at the small limits then just jump into the 15 game when I get like 12 K. I'm an idiot...

Why not do 5/10 6 max and then 10/20 6 max and then move to 15/30?

I've worked my way up in limits from 0.5/1 to 5/10 or 10/20. (Well I'm playing 10/20 and feel like I'm a winning player, but I'm in the red after over 5K hands.)

I have learned a lot playing 5/10 (both full and SH) and 10/20 (mostly SH, some full).

I can't really say much about the 15/30, but your edge is going to be much smaller to start with and you could easily start out as a losing or breakeven player before you adjust. You can definitely run bad. So you need to be prepared for these possibilities.

I don't want to say don't go to the 15/30, bedause I am not familiar with it and it could be the best move for you. I can only say that, for myself, I have enjoyed and learned from playing 5/10 and 10/20 so far. The games are definitely beatable. But as the edge decreases and the aggression increases, the variance grows a lot. It's been a big adjustment for me to experience it. This month alone (which coincides with my taking my first shot at 10/20), in about 12K hands, I have lost over $3K, then won over $4K, lost $1.5K, and won $1.5K. I think I played some of my best poker during the stretch where I lost $1.5K. That's playing mostly 10/20 and some 5/10 (largely after I lost the $3K). Think about whether you can deal with those kind of swings and still play your A game.

It's not a stupid idea...but if you are used to 3/6, then the swings at 15/30 are going to seem brutal. Especially if your not sure if you are a winning player at 15/30.

Why not play normal 3/6 game and drop 1 table of 3/6 and add 1 15/30 table when the 15/30 game looks good? Then if you drop too much on the 15/30 table you can quit that game and still play 3/6.

I think I jumped into 15/30 with a 250BB bankroll, so you don't need 12K if you can beat the game and you don't get too unlucky at first.

It's not stupid if you understand how big the swings are, especially when you're first adjusting to the games. I jumped from .5/1 to 5/10 after doing my homework and did fine. My first 50 BB downswing felt terrible though.
