Refornat Gone Bad.

I just reformated my Desktop and everything was fine. I went to reformat my Laptop this morning and Now my screen doesnt work. Its lit up but just black. Im using a version of Win XP Pro I downloaded... would this cause problems since Im not using the Disc HP gave me? Is it like my driver is gone for my laptop LCD screen? idk what to do. Im in class right now but when I get back I want to hook it up to an external monitor. would this maybe work?

It's most likely because you haven't got the right gfx drivers installed. Try the external monitor. You could also try connecting to the laptop using remote desktop on another machine.

Have you tried using the function key to change the default monitor? Often you'll need to hit "Fn-F4" or something (you'll see an icon of a monitor on the correct key).

How would I connect with another machine. I have my desktop on the same network as my laptop.

I tried this and it switched to the External Monitor but its just lit and stays black. I had this problem with my Desktop once and my friend helped me over the phone and fixed it so when he gets back from class Ill see what he says.

LOL. So after restarting it for like the 5th time it all the sudden worked and booted from the cd. Hopefully itll keep working through the reformat. Thanks for the replies
