Bad Beat Jackpots an expensive river...(no useful content)

Ok sort of a bad beat story, but not really since I actually won a huge pot on the hand. Interesting situation tho.

Playing 3/6...get 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] on the button. About 5 limpers to me and I limp.

Flop is the beautiful T [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
MP bets, couple of callers, I raise, he 3-bets, folded to me, I 4 bet, he caps. (5 bet cap) I'm thinking sweet, he has a flush.

Heads up on the turn of J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], cappucino again.

by now you can see it coming I'm sure. Now I'm PRAYING he has JJ and not the flush because the bad beat jackpot is 17K, which we would split.

River is of course the Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] We go 4 or 5 bets on the river til he is all in.

As I'm sure you've figured out by now, he indeed had JJ but we did NOT split the jackpot because now I was only using one of my hole cards to make my highest possible hand.

When he flipped JJ I flipped and yelled JACKPOT! The dealer at first agreed, but after a second look, said I'm sorry, your hand is playing 4 from the board. She called the floor over to verify, and he agreed. No jackpot.

My opponent, who was drunk, went nuts and looked like he was about to get violent, but finally calmed down and left. River was much worse for him than me I guess, at least I took down the biggest pot I've ever seen at 3/6 by far.

Now that's a bad beat... the one time you DONT want to hit your one outer and it shows up. Definitely sucks for the other guy though. He has to have some idea that you might have that 9c before capping the river. Then again, I don't think I'd be able to slow down with quads. Ni han!

Do the cards speak, or do you - e.g. could you play the lower straight flush, thereby using both your hole cards? I suspect the answer is no.

Cards speak. His best 5-card hand was a Q-high straight flush.
