Why the higher stakes players play limit O/8 (NC)

Ive noticed that most people on here prefer the pot limit variety versus limit O/8. However, when I read or hear about pros playing O/8 it is always the limit version. Is it because you have a bigger advantage against weaker opponents in Pot Limit? This is my first O/8 post and I have just started playing O/8. Thanks for any replies.

The big games are mixed games where everything is limit, that is why they talk about limit instead of PL. Not to mention that places tend to spread limit O8 more than PL08, assuming ur not in Europe from what I have heard. Its the same reason why the pros are talking about limit holdem instead of NL holdem in the big games.

quoting Steve Badger:

One reason PLO8 isn't played much in casinos is because skill wins. Bad play and bad players are annihilated, and fast too. PLO8 games peopled only with good players are hideously bad. The game becomes pointless and tedious. It comes down to exploiting extremely rare flukes (like top full house losing to quads).

Exactly.

Thats the same reason why NL holdem died for many years. Bad players were just getting killed way too fast because their bad play was fully exploited as it was NL. Its comeback now because of the poker boom, but still there are usually a lot more limit tables than NL tables.

It is "ALWAYS" limit o/8 getting played by pros?
If you're talking about live play, then that's simply because pot limit games, especially split pot games take forever to play. People constantly asking how much they can raise etc.
However online there are plenty of pros, like me, who play PLO8 and do well enough out of it thank you very much. PLO8 is made for online and because there is a lot less information out there on the game, people play terribly at it. Fact is, there are plenty of pros who aren't interested in telling their story, much preferring to stay under the spotlight and just make their money.

The big games always have PLO going and it won't take a bit for them to figure out what the pot size raise is. The bottom line of PLO8 is simple, the ones who play in position win and those high stake gamblers all know about it and it becomes insanely boring and pointless. But position is something you simply don't give a damn or something you will never understand.

this is not true----
sometimes THE GAME(Doyle and them) is played POT LIMIT or NO-LIMIT ---
now they do put a CAP on the amount one can loose in the for hand, most times the cap is 100,000----

Thanks for sharing, but OP specified "higher stakes" players.

Mike, I think the answer is that the stakes for PLO8 aren't high enough to interest the higher stakes players. Even at the 2k-buyin level, the average PLO8 pot isn't going to get much higher than a grand or so, whereas in 150/300 limit or 300/600 limit, the average potsize is going to be many times that.

The short answer is yes.

The long answer is that in live games, you have to keep the weaker players alive. And PLO8b, amongst good players, just isnt gambling. And when the "provider" realises that he has just put in his stack for four outs for half the pot, the penny finally drops.
