Preflop decision...

You're in a fairly tight, somwhat aggressive game on Pokerroom 2/4, avg pot is about $20 and maybe 30% are seeing the flop on avg.

You have pocket 5's in the SB. An early player limps, a middle player raises and the button 3 bets. Neither the MP player nor the button have been making loose raises since you've been at the table. You expect the EP limper to call as he is the loosest player at the table but the BB is rather tight.

Do you call or fold?

Re: Preflop decision...

Without specific reads on the bb and limper I would fold. If I think there is a good chance this pot will be five ways to the flop then it is a clear call. So my answer is it depends...

Re: Preflop decision...

I editted. BB is tight and will almost certainly fold a non-premium hand, limper is pretty loose and I would expect him to call the majority of the time but not always. On average I think we're looking at just under 4 players to the flop including myself and its gonna be set or fold.

Given your read on the raisers, I fold this like the cards are coated in acid.

At PR lately, this is a pretty easy fold. It will probably be 3 way if you call.

would it be an easy call if the 3better just cold called? i'd normally fold here. then again i'm at 5/10 on party where i'd be paying 3/5ths of a bet not 1/2 of a bet.

Re: Preflop decision...

10.5:2.5 (pot odds)
10:1 (odds to win)
25:2.5 (odds to win multiplied with the number of bets you need to put into the pot)

25 - 10.5 = 14.5 SB

So you need to be making 7BB postflop when you hit (or 12BB when you get capped), let's say 8.5BB on average. I don't think your implied odds will cover. Let's take a look at a good scenario for you:

Flop: A95(r)
Hero bets, EP calls, MP calls, Button raises, Hero 3-bets, EP calls, MP folds, Button calls. (3.5BB)

Turn: rag
Bet, call, call. (5.5BB)

River: rag
Bet, call, call. (7.5BB)

This is not the best scenario or the worst, but hoping to do better on average is too opimistic imo. And your relative position to the pfr sucks.

Yeah, I folded, but I think I'm tighter with small pairs than most.

Hi brocktoon,

This is an easy fold, you don't want to pay 3 sbs to see a flop in the worst position with 55.

Happy holidays,

Trash 'em.

...and make sure you don't second guess yourself if a 5 shows up on the flop.
