Quick $500 Foxoods report

1200+, a record for a $500 buy-in (according to the tourney director). Mass confusion, trying to work 2 rooms and 120 tables. Terrible dealers, as the Blackjack dealers had to be summoned to deal in the tourney - so bad that the players had to tell the dealer what to do on almost every hand. Multiple all-ins and side pots? Forget it.

I finished in the 400-500 range, playing well for the most part, but my AJo got cracked by A6h with a runner-runner flush, then I made a great read on a J92 board that my pp6 were good and the guy sucked out on me (had QT). Finally, got a good read on the chip leader (from what I can see) that he was trying to make a move on an unraised 554J board and I check-raised him with 23s. He re-raised me and I had to muck, when he showed 8To. So, I made the right read, but he made a better one. (so much for not sharing my bad beat stories)

Cash games the night before were incredibly loose. Played 4/8 and 1/2 NL. I got called on an all-in in NL where my KK ran into...JQo (but held up). Just sat around and waited for hands b/c I knew they'd get paid off.

All-in-all, a good experience, but the tourney was almost too big (though if I won the top prize of $160,000, I don't think I'd mind the size).

I got busted somewhere around 650ish. Difficult blind structure to accumulate chips unless you’re getting cards. I was just staying afloat by stealing blinds once they hit 50/100. That’s what killed me though. . . a blind steal gone bad.
Blinds were 100/200, I had 1900, BB had 3000+. Play had seemed to tighten up quite a bit since the new blind level started.
I had Qd Th. Folded to me in the CO, I raise to 500. Folds to BB who calls. Flop comes Jh 8h 5c. BB checks, I thought it looked like a relatively safe flop to fire at. . . I bet 700 into the 1100 pot. BB check raises me all-in. At this point I have only 700 chips left. I went into the tank for a bit. . . I figured BB could play AJ or KJ like this, and my Q MIGHT be a clean out, and my gutshot was 4 outs. So I was getting 4.5:1 on the call and I felt like I had 7 outs. Plus I didn’t think I could do anything with 700 chips left, so I called & BB flipped over QQ. . . so much for my Q as an out. Neither turn or river brought the 9 I needed & I was out.

I checked the website today & there are 20 ppl left. . . any 2+2’rs?

I didn't see any pot odds in that equation. B/C if I'm about a 1-1 and I'm calling an all-in with money in the pot, I think I made the right decision, yes?

Yeah, you're right. I was just being a wise-ass, pointing out that he didn't "suck out". I'm not really a tournament guy, but I think it's possibly right even to take slightly the worst of it chip equity wise, due to the pressure of the rising blinds.

No worries, I understood what you meant. When I computed it in my head after the hand, I thought I was a slight favorite, but I guess not.

I have to disagree - I don't know how it was upstairs, but everything was run very smoothly in the Ballroom.
