8-handed, open-push with 88? $55

Wasn't entirely sure what to do, so I pushed. BL said he liked it.

at the 55s you are only going to get called by hands that have you beat. at a lower buyin i push, but you are no where near desperate for a coinflip.

edit: i just did an icm on it and it is close unless you have a loose caller. i dont think that you have any stacks that are desperate enough yet to loosen up their calling standards, but then again, there may be a total donk or two at your table that would make it worthwhile.

Meh, AK will call often I am sure, you are not beat by AK.

Why does everybody keep saying this kind of thing?

The players at the $55s are not good. Trust me.

Okay but isn't that a good thing? It becomes less likely that I get called, so I pick up blinds, which is what I'd like to do. I'd prefer not to get called...at least that's what I thought when pushing it. But getting called shouldn't be disastrous.

He is saying that you will only get called by 99+ Aj+, which I don't agree with.

It is not really a good thing, as you would love to get called by smaller pairs, A2, j6 etc.

I always push this at a $55, and I think people really overrate how good the players are.

I haven't run it thru SNGPT but if I wouldn't be shocked if this was marginal to -EV. A lot of people to act behind you and a medium pp that is probably barely ahead or way behind if you get called.

At the same time, people are scared of the UTG push. Scared! I think it's could be a push. But I think your stack is right around the stack size where I would just let it go.

If you had 1-2 fewer BB, I would push. If you had 1-2 more BB I would fold. This is in the most difficult range

Again, 99 easy push, 77 easy fold.

Please post less interesting hands.
(In the actual game, I'd probably end up pushing though.)

Re: 8-handed, open-push with 88? $55

I really don't think there's much of a chance your dominating anything if called. I agree I've seen some serious donks at the $55, not many would call with A2 from an UTG push with a healthy stack.

Also the fact that its 8-handed at level 5 with everyone at about even stacks leads me to believe that the table is tighter than average, so I'm not expecting a call from Ax or J6.

I think this is very close and won't affect your ROI either way, but I like to border on the tight side here and probably fold this 70% of the time. I agree that with 2 fewer BB this becomes clear cut.

1) I push this.
2) Yes it's confirmed, the average $55 player is really bad.
3) I think I'd fold 77, but it would be closer, I haven't run the math, or maths as some would say.

I push and it's not even close. If you double up, you can DOMINATE, this is something that needs to be talked about more often, your new stack can clean up! W/ 3k chips, pushing any 2 from SB/button/CO will be +$EV with blinds this rediculous.

Perg, I mean this in the kindest terms. And I've probably begun reading more of your posts since you announced you were quitting poker.

I know that you know how to answer this question on your own. I think that what you're asking here is ..."what are the typical calling ranges of the people at the $55s, give the following circumstances?"
