I think you need at least one of Sufjan/Elliot/Iron and Wine, but probably not more than one.

All 3 of those bands/artists IMO. Sufjan is pretty different to the other two due to his production and instrumentation. I guess if you had to choose between Elliot and Iron and Wine, go w/ Elliot - he was the progenitor of much of this genre as it is.

Edit: and the poor bastard's dead by self-inflicted knife in the heart. +10 points

I think XO is far better than Either/Or and better than anything Beam has ever done but not better than Illinois.

You caught me before I edited it. I got to 12 and stopped and then realized that I left off Smith (and a million other albums).
