Veruca Salt
inspired by the recent "chicks that rock" posts, I wanted to give special props to a band I really, really liked...
Veruca Salt. for some reason, I always seem to be the only one who liked them. They got horrible reviews. Didn't sell that many albums. But damn, I loved those two Veruca Salt albums: http://www-tech.mit.edu/V114/N65/veruca.65.gif http://fusionanomaly.net/verucasalte...stoholdyou.jpg Plus, they had Nina Gordon in the band then, who was pretty smokin': http://www.hereinheaven.com/blog/images/nina.jpg Saw them live three times, and all three times they brought the house down. Am I the only one who actually thinks this band was any good? |
Re: Veruca Salt
and here i was thinking this was a willy wonka thread. j/k...they were alright. they started getting popular (semi-popular) at an odd time...the breeders, the cranberries, alanis, etc...were all breaking and it seemed trendy to have females in the band...
i never saw them live. |

Where the Domisright gimmick account?
Other overlooked awesome 90s chick bands: Sleeper, Clare Quilty, 5678s, Team Dresch. [/Domisright] |
Re: Veruca Salt
I'm with you Dom, they rocked! I had a particular ex I deemed seether after our split up because of them! One of the kick-butt chick bands of the 90's!

Re: Veruca Salt
yes, i have their first album. never saw them live though. i dug the breeders a lot and thought they sounded a bit like them so it was a natural buy. i heard the second album a few times but it didnt do much for me.

Saw them in Boston. Forget who they opened for, but they were good.

Don't forget Elastica. [/ QUOTE ] Man, I almost forgot about them. They always drove me nuts with how short their songs were. They were so catchy I didn't want them to end. Add me to the Veruca Salt club, too. I remeber reading that they got known at the Austin South by Southwest festival or whatever it's called. The article said they could hardly play but they still won the crowd through sheer attidude. |
