tilting tonight
 

Sorry for not using the hand script to show hero/villiain etc, i am new to the forum, and i will definitely use it from now on, but tonight, i ran into this situation:

i was holding 28 offsuit, in position, and made it 2$ to go in a .25/.50 NL game. Everyone folded, and one dude called my $2 raise.

He was first to act, flop came out 852. He bets $5.50 which is approximately the amount of money in the pot. Taking into consideration he just called, and then called my raise on the preflop. i stood to think he was making a bluff. I re-raised his $5.50 raise all-in , having around $15 dollars left, and having him covered. He called.

Villain showed Q5. Turn and river both show diamonds, there are 4 diamonds total on the board, and he takes the pot with a flush.

Did i make the right decision here?

Sure, you got it in with the best of it. Tough break. Questionable preflop however. I like my six-gappers under ten to be suited, but to each his own. Or is 82 a 5-gapper? Hmmm.

Fold pre-flop. 82o is just a disgusting hand. Also, stack sizes would help next time you post.

Tough break, but sometimes, you just get outdrawn.

i only played the hand because i was in great position, and to mix up my play a little, throw my opponents off a little.

Even though you can justify your move, it's still fairly dangerous. You are making this raise to pick up the blinds, but really can't afford to be played with. If the table is super-tight, it would be better. But if you have players calling pf raises with such hands as Q5o, then you need to rethink your steal strategy.

Holy cow, what game has a 82o raise called by Q5o out of position?! Man, if you tighten up some and play better starting cards, you'll clean up. Sounds like a home game where everybody like to play too many hands and take any pair too far after the flop. I think "mixing up your game" with a 28o LP preflop raise is just terrible. At least mix it up with a hand that has a chance at somekind of a reasonalbe future, like 87s or something.

As the hand played out, you floped a very well-disguised two-pair, and managed to get villain's money all in while you were a big favorite to win. So, post flop, you played just fine. Suck outs happen - although I'd have to say that you "sucked out" on him with that flop to begin with. If villain calls with Q5/pair of fives then he certainly would have called a continuation bet if you had a real hand like AKs. So, against a loose passive guy who will call with crap, you need good starting cards to raise, and a good (but not great) hand to bet. There is clearly not much fold equity against this guy.

But, you out flopped him and turned the tables. At that point, your push and villain's call was clearly best.
