favorite nyc bar?
 

what's your favorite bar(s) in nyc?

my favorite bar in manhattan is burp castle, which bdk3clash hipped me to. haven't been there in a while though. love the decor and the quiet atmosphere, plus they have all kinds of good beer.

favorite bar in bklyn is a tie between sweet-ups, on graham ave L stop, and the pour house, on metropolitan off the same stop.

haven't been to nyc in awhile but early 2004 my favorite place to go was misshapes (at luke and leroys, on 7th ave and leroy).

pretty sure that it's really played out by now though (heard hillary duff was there a few months ago, eww) and i don't think i'd go back.

Edit: I also like Niagra down in alphabet city.

Edit #2: I just wanted to point out that I'm not sure many people on this board would enjoy misshapes. It's mostly a ton of hipsters getting dressed down, listening to a dj spin [censored] like new order and fischerspooner, and doing coke everywhere that has a flat surface. Last time I went I took a friend who got denied at the door for being over dressed.

Since there is little chance of anyone picking a place above 20th street, Im going to go with an uptown sentimental favorite of mine, "Fez" on 85th and Bway.

In Brooklyn I like "Franks" in Fort Greene. What sealed the deal for me was when the DJ went from the Whispers "And the Beat Goes On" into the Talking Heads "Once In A Lifetime" and the crowd didnt even flinch.

I like dive bars, so Mona's on B and 13th and Freddy's in Fort Greene.

Awesome, I haven't been there in awhile. This thread is making me want to make a trip up to NYC.

Ive only been there a couple of times, but both times it was a blast. Turnipmonster, you are a musician? Ever been up to St. Nicks Pub?

of course I've been to st. nicks man [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]. I used to go to the jam sessions there monday night when I first moved to nyc. james carter used to be up there just about every monday too!

I haven't lived above 14th St. for like 5 years so I'm biased toward bars downtown and in Brooklyn, just because that's where I tend to hang out.

Bars I like:

7B--(East Village) I used to live across the street. It's usually too crowded on the weekends but this is an awesome bar.

St. Dymphnas--(East Village) Best pint of Guinness in the East Village. Classy and cozy.

Duke's (East Village, 9th and C)--Cool neighborhood bar. And I know the owners...

Barcade--(Williamsburg) 30+ classic arcade games and an excellent beer selection. I believe this is The Daver's/SFer's favorite bar.

HiFi--(East Village) Good beer selection, great crowd, and the best jukebox in the city. Usually pretty easy to find a booth to sit in which is key. This is my default first date bar.

Corner Bistro--(West Village) I'm not a huge fan of this place in terms of the crowd or the bar itself, but the burgers are out of this world.

Man I miss drinking.
