Best Book for Beginner?

What would you guys rank as the all-time best hold'em book for the total beginner? Out of the books i read that i considered to be accesible to beginners, my vote is
1. GSIH Ed Miller
2. TOP Sklansky
3. Zen & Art/Poker Phillips

What do you guys think?

I wouldn't classify TOP as a beginners book by any means.

100% agreement. Anyhow, apart from GSIH, I'd add WLLH 3rd edition and Matthew Hilger's book.

I'm curious. Why isn't TOP considered to be a beginners book? You two seem pretty sure, so that's part of the reason why I'm curious.

GSIH, no question.

Why did you pick these three? I don't think they have much in common.
TOP has advice that is much too general to help beginners.
Zen has awful poker advice which is also too general. It will probably hurt your game if you are a beginner.
GSIH wins the race by default.

Yep. But I am tempted to stick WLLH3 in between GSIH and the newbie getting to SSH.

I wrote about this in another thread, but a number of my friends who are coming into poker in the last few months with their only knowledge being what they saw on TV, I start them with Getting Started, then Theory of Poker, then Small Stakes Hold 'em.

I think even though WLLH 3rd is much better than 2nd, a newer player may pick up some things that will hinder his progress early and is better off avoiding it -- if anything, even though the text is simple, it is better for someone coming to it LATER in their knowledge so they can see the incorrect information for what it is and only utilize that information which is valid.

In summary: GSIH, TOP, SSH - the Triple Threat Tutorial.
