Props in Michigan?
 

Does anyone know if the Soaring Eagle or Greektown casinos in Michigan use props? Props are usually pretty easy to spot (like sky marshals [img]/images/smile.gif[/img]), and there is one player at Soaring Eagle who I think could be one. This player is always there, and made a comment like "I've gotta go get that game started" to someone else at the table. I asked the dealer, who said no.


I know Nevada law states that props and shills have to be identified, but this is an Indian casino. Is it possible that the casino isn't being forthcoming? Or did I just read too much into this guy's statement?

I've played quite a bit at the Soaring Eagle, and as I remember they don't have any props on the payroll. As for Greektown, I'm virtually sure they don't as the almost never have a problem filling a game (although this has begun to change a bit, oddly enough, since they opened the new cardroom).

hey any info on what's going on in the detroit poker scene would be appreciated....did greektown expand..how are the games at various limits and can you get in a g without waiting 3 hours like at xmas time...did mgm, or someomne else open a room...tia gl

Last time I was at Greektown was two weeks ago, and I waited four and a half hours between the time I called in to be placed on the list and when I got my seat. I've gone on different days and different times, but always seem to get on LONG lists. When they had their old room, I went one Sunday at 3:00 am (don't even ask why [img]/images/smile.gif[/img]) and waited two hours.


I just started going to Soaring Eagle, because the two hour drive up there is shorter than the wait at Greektown. It's also a much better place to play, imho.

thanks...lol..the last time in mich at soaring iggle that was the joke..easier to drive to mt. pleasant than wait for a seat..gl

Greektown expanded to a nine table room in January. If you are looking to play the lowest limit hold 'em game (5-10) or the high spread limit stud game (5-20), the wait is usually not too terrible. Otherwise, if you come at peak times, you should bring a book. The "word on the street" is that Motor City is opening a poker room on March 15th, although supposedly they are know having labor problems, etc., so it may be delayed.


You are now allowed to call in and reserve a seat, although oftentimes nobody answers. The phone number is 313-223-2999, just press 4 as soon as the voice recording begins. If you live at some distance, though, this is just a guessing game; if you don't arrive when your name is called, you get recycled at the bottom of the list.


To alleviate the waiting problem, I recommend arriving at off-peak hours, if at all possible. (For example, I am not leaving for a couple of hours as of right now.) Getting there at 1 p.m. on a Friday, for example, and grinding it out for a few hours before the action players arrive. In general, the low-limit "regulars" give enough action to make a decent amount, although I cannot speak to the middle limit games.


If you are at all a decent shorthanded hold 'em player, you might want to take a look into the mid-morning shorthanded low limit hold 'em affairs. I primarily play stud, but I think I am at least a $30 an hour favorite in the short 5-10 hold 'em games I have played in the last three Saturday night-Sunday morning turnovers. This could just be freakish, though.


Good luck, hopefully the Detroit poker scene will improve ASAP. Just happy to have one, though.

Just heard today that Motor City has postponed the opening of their poker room until July/August.

I went again yesterday at 3:00, and I was 17th on the list. I waited four hours for a table, and at times the list was as long as 40 people. The manager told someone they were going to "do something" about the waits, but I have no idea what that means, if anything.


Like you say, at least there IS a poker scene in Detroit.
