I went like 2 weeks with not being able to hear and that ringing.

No.
God help me.
(Strangely, posting about it repeatedly has not made it easier to take my mind off it. Huh.)

I may put in a request to change my handle to Crazy Earz.

Also, if it stays bad for several more days, take your ass to a Ear Nose Throat doctor, get a referral or whatever.

Don't mess around with your hearing. GP docs don't usually know much about ears.

I was going to post the same thing. I was mis-diagnosed (sp?) with an ear infection several times by a GP before going to an ENT specialist. He took care of it in one visit.

Well I'm not sure what "bad" is. Pain is not an issue. As far as hearing loss, someone posted here that it can last for awhile. I read on the internet that the fluid can stay trapped for some time, which I infer means the hearing loss can linger as well. I guess if there's no change by tomorrow I'll give the doc a call and make him refer me to a ENT doctor. If they tell me it may take a week/month, then I will SCKM. (I'll get video and arrange for payments from Diablo to my family.)

Bad is when you have no idea what's going on in your ear because most GPs can't diagnose a damn thing when it comes to ears.

2 weeks? Try 13 years. All because the first doctors didn't think the ear infections meant anything significant and that tubes could fix all problems.

Hope you are flying anywhere the in the next couple of weeks. I had an ear infection hit me on the descent of long flight. I would have taken the emergency exit without a parachute option if it would had been offered.

Yep.

My ears ended up stabilizing the pressure by releasing air through my tear ducts.

Holy hell that hurt so damned bad.

Go to a health food or herbal med. store. Ask them for some garlic ear drops... they work wonders at releaving the pain. We rarely put our kids on antibiotics for ear infections. This stuff works like a charm.

You are clearly a paid shill of Big Garlic.

Why are you suppressing the true cure for ear infections, which is to apply cold compresses to the feet?

Re: Ear infection question

I had a horrible ear infection over the summer as well, lasted about 2 weeks. It was first diagnosed as inner/middle ear, and the doctor gave me a week's worth of oral antibiotics. Turned out that did nothing and the pain and pressure got worse and worse. Went to ENT, and it was re-diagnosed as an outer ear infection (swimmer's ear). He gave me eardrops and some serious painkiller.

Even after the infection cleared it took about another month for my hearing to return to normal.

Re: Ear infection question

Bump for update/advice:

Still can't hear out of my right ear. Loud ringing. Minimal to no pain.
Called an ENT today. Lady sounded ready to have a nurse call me, then at the last second asked if I had been referred by my GP. I said no. She told me to call the GP. I asked why I couldn't get some help from the "experts" and she didn't really give me an answer.

Called the GP, they put a nurse on with me. She said it's not abnormal to take this long for the fluid to clear. Keep taking decongestant. If pain increases or it's not better by next week, call back.

Do I go with this, or call another ENT?

Re: Ear infection question

you can make them refer you if you want.

If they won't, get another doctor.

It should NOT take 3 weeks for the crap to drain from your ears or for your hearing to come back. That's bunk.

Get a referral. Worst case scenario, you at least find out what specifically is wrong with you.
