How many of us played magic before moving to poker?
Going through the Where You Are Now post, it seems like a lot of us played magic before moving to poker. Let's see some numbers.
I played type 2 tournies in MA for like 3 years. I quit when ravager took over because I got sick of losing to it. |

I played MTG from about 1996 to 2000. Some MTG skills do translate to poker. I just wish I'd discovered poker before I discovered MTG.

Played for a few years... Someday I'll make as much at poker as I spent buying cards

You know your poll is going to be biased in favor of those who have played magic before right?

Re: How many of us played magic before moving to poker?
I was actually a retailer for M:TG for a while, and sold the cards at flea markets, etc. Playing with kids that would come and buy cards from me. I was in the Guru program and all that. More along the judge-track then the tournament winner track.
I never made it to a tournament.. never went the extra mile to buy rares that would make my deck powerful enough for a tournament. That was back around Stronghold days. I have some Mercardian Masques cards, and the expansion after that, but it was a long time ago. KO |

Started during Mirage. I played mostly till plainshift. I started back up a little later and played during Scourge to moridian. I just realized a 9th edition just came out. I might build a deck to pwn some n00bs for fun O_o
Magic definitely has things that translates to poker, especially in the trap setting part of the game. However, the redundency of magic doesn't compare to the joys of poker. |
Re: How many of us played magic before moving to poker?
I have more fun drafting magical cards than playing poker. Poker pays much better though, so I don't play much magical cards.
