Just found a link to his blog and it had some notes about Stud8 that I found interesting, mainly when he said:

"My strategy on third street is a little different than the others, as I like to jam the pot early even when I may be pushing very small edges. As far as I'm concerned, Hi Lo games are all about pushing small edges and I like to punish those opponents that are in there with inferior hands."

This seems wrong to me as even the most beautiful of starters can double brick quick pretty easy and making a big pot makes you have to chase, but I am far from an expert.

Anyone here apply this strategy? Maybe it has a better place in bigger games.

Just curious to see if anyone has any thoughts on the matter.

Seems like a good strategy in tight games with opponents that you know well and can play.

I play mainly low limit but 5/10 and up it's useful to setup your later play in what is usually a heads up or 3way pot.

2/4 and 3/6, especially 2/4, I just fold 4th if I brick, even if the pot is huge from my 3rd aggression, cause I figure I will get the money eventually just by playing good cards.

I think this is probably true in more aggresive games. I think you also have ot have excellent hand reading ability to play like this...

I like gambling early in this game. It's fun, and it keeps people off-balance. It isn't really necessary in most games, though.

You play hold'em, right? Your default play with AK is to raise, right? Sometimes you miss the flop, and you have to check and fold. This does not make your pre-flop raise any less correct. By the same token, it isn't "wrong" to raise with A54 in stud/8 just because a black Ten is coming.

I think some of the hands likely to have small edges are high hands...
