Going to Canterbury

I should be there Thursday night and for a good chunk of Friday/Saturday. I'll hopefully be playing 15/30, but will play lower if the games are real good. White, 6'0", 185lbs, 22 yrs old, and I'll either have on a dirty, khaki Lucky hat or I'll have messy, sorta spiky sandy blonde hair. Feel free to say hi.

Re: Going to Canterbury

The number of games above the 8-16 limit has been very few for the past couple of days due to the very high current jackpot($128k) as the 15-30 and 30-60 games are not jackpot games. Plenty of games at 2-4, 3-6, 4-8, 6-12, and 8-16.

Mon. night - 11pm - they couldn't even keep a stud game going...LOL - they played 3 handed for a while -

Re: Going to Canterbury

For the jackpot to go off, aces full of tens or better has to be beaten by quads or better, both hole cards playing and for aces full to qualify, at least one ace has to be in your hand. Loser gets 50%, winner 25%, the rest of the table chops the balance.

Dude, it's wednesday night we were up there...

I knew they were gonna be there thurs as I've been chattin with shnieds a little.

They weren't there tonight.

I bet the 30 will go, vehn, it was still going when asdf and I left at 5am. Was a full game til perhaps midnight or so.

Every table was full til about 3am. nutty.

So much action it will make your eyes bleed. Lovin it...

If my family didn't put shame on me for going 3 nights in a row I'd head up there tomorrow again.

Good luck to you all.

From today's St. Paul Pioneer Press:
"ESPN Boxing analsyt Scott LeDoux is helping coordinate the Golden Gloves boxing matches that begin tonight at Canterbury Downs."

ooooooh great, so, tonight will be EVEN MORE busy than it was going to already be?

Ummm ya, it is looking like a 5-6pm arrival for Doug and me, and from the sounds of it like we'll maybe get on a table at about 10?!?

I'm playing whatever I can get on with the goal being 15/30 unless the 15 sucks.

Hey Vehn,

It was cool getting to meet you tonight, man - how'd you end up doing? That 15 they had going had to be one of the toughest lineups I've seen, what with you, Schneids, and gonores all fighting over the live ones' money.

-Edge

ps., My real name's Brandon, by the way.

Hey bike,

What I play sometimes depends on the tables and my mood...most of the time I'm playing the 6/12, but tonight was a 4/8 session, and a decent one at that. What about you?

Re: Going to Canterbury

Same thing as you. Usually 6/12. Will play 8/16 if the game is good or 4/8 if the others aren't good or I can't get on.

I usually go on tuesdays and an ocaisional friday. In a few weeks I wont be going anymore tuesdays, but pretty much just weekends.

Maybe we've played together? I'm 21, sorta short red hair, 5'9, 150...

any idea what I can expect the wait to be for low-limits (up to $4-8) tonight (Fri)? Arrival around 6pm I'm hoping. I'm going with someone who's playing for the first time outside a home game and wants to play $2-4 despite my advice against.

thanks.

Re: Going to Canterbury

Hey Jeff,

If the jackpot hasn't been hit, and with the 112K backup, probably even if it has, you should have about a half hour, maybe 45 minute wait on your hands for 4/8...expect the 2/4 roll to be even longer. Games were still going STRONG when I left around 1 this morning.

Are you just messing with the guy?

Expect at least 2 hours, no less, possibly 3 or 4 (no joke) for the 2/4. Probably about an hour for 4/8. Could be more for that too. I was up there on tuesday and wednesday and it was taking that long and that's not a friday.

Good luck.

Edge34 06-12-2004 03:02 PM

Re: Going to Canterbury

hmm...

I only waited about half an hour for the 4/8 on Thursday night...and I didn't get there till about 7:30. About another half hour later I got called for the 3/6. The 2/4 was crazy long, but I'd say probably NO more than 2 to 2 and a half hours, unless things just go crazy - which is, of course, entirely possible.

Re: Going to Canterbury

The hand in question:

Background: Vehn is in the BB in this hand. This is approximately my 4th orbit on the table. So far, Vehn has tried to steal on my BB twice, both times unsuccessfully when I won with some flop aggression. I've shown down two losers and 0 winners so far, with the same guy checking behind my check on the river. Both times I had second pair (played by me with a flop checkraise), both times he had top pair or better. To this point, I don't know that Vehn is at my table. I'm not certain if Vehn knows that I am gonores yet, as I haven't said anything, but I do have the trademark Lucky hat on my head.

I get dealt black aces UTG +2. I open limp. An LP limper, SB, and Vehn see a flop.

Flop: Qh 9h 5h

Checked to me, I bet, only Vehn calls.

Turn: black blank

Check, bet, call

River: 7h

Check, check

Vehn turns over Q9o for flopped top two. I scientifically eliminate him from my search for Vehn.

BTW, Vehn...I have taken the liberty of preparing two smarmy responses to my post that you may feel free to use.

1) I was thrown when you didn't automuck after I called on the turn.

2) I had to get home in the next few hours, so I didn't want you to coffeehouse when I checkraised you on the flop.

Anywho...It was fun meeting you and everyone else who came out on Thrusday night.

I dunno what I was thinking this hand. All I knew is that you liked your hand a lot. At the time I was thinking to checkraise the river on a non heart. I don't know why that seemed like a good idea at the time. Oh well, I play bad.

Vehn 06-12-2004 07:04 PM

Re: Going to Canterbury

Let me explain a little more. I wasn't sure you were a 2+2 (I didn't remember to read the 1st post in this thread prior to going out there) so I put you in typical "young kid trying to play well" category. I was confused by your open limp but post flop put you on a strong made hand. Therefore checkraising the non heart river limits my liability when you have a better hand than me. This is kind of a dumb (and wrong) way to look at it but it sorta makes sense.

+ I was drunk.

how the hell did you get drunk at Canterbury? - those waitresses keep me limited to one every 45 min...and that's with the longpours....

They take $1 out of every pot you win and give it away to someone else.

New news: All tournaments at Canterbury have been cancelled until July 5th. They love the full tables generated by jackpot fever so they are now seeding the jackpot with house money (profit from the back room games that they somehow must give back by law). It has been hit twice in the last two days but last night (Sunday) was still worth $104k.

Nope, but I was there last night where this old drunk asian guy with a big walking stick was doing that. He said he got in a fight with his wife and he just wanted to have some fun. He wasn't there to win he said. He called a 5 way cap pre flop with 52o and took down the pot with a straight. Man the guy with A's cried. I had k's so it didn't hurt so much as i was 3rd place.

I'll probably be there next saturday, though.
