You know that guy who plays on stars? Its his younger, darker cousin.

Re: Super/System 2

Probably obvious, but I'm thinking it SHOULD be Daniel Negreanu.

Re: Super/System 2

Yes, It's Daniel. He was nice enough to talk to our Wednesday poker group last Wednesday and confirmed that he is writing a section (triple draw among other things) for the new Super System.

Best of Luck

Howard

Does this count as the Barry Greenstein book I've heard is in the works, or is there another one coming?

Re: Super/System 2

So what's the deal with it? I see "new strategies" and new contributors on the cover, but is it going to be a simple re-print with slight changes and a big #2 on the front, or is this an actual completely new book?

Re: Super/System 2

Since very few of the original authors are listed as contributors, I'm assuming it's a completely new book.

I take that to mean that Joey Hawthore is dead?

That doesn't do anything to change my guess that this is a completely new book.

Are they going to dump the high-draw poker section? I assume high draw is still popular in home games.

Hi dsm:

I don't know but they should. It has virtually no value as a form of casino poker any more.

Best wishes,
Mason

I hope they keep the high draw section in there. I like high draw.

Is Doyle going to have anything new to say on NLHE? I'm still trying to decide whether or not to buy the original Super/System. If he doesn't, I'll probably just wait for the new book.

You should buy the original, it's only 30 bucks now and well worth it, particularly from the standpoint that a lot of people have read it and you should know what it has to say.

This book is starting to rival the pre-release of Mel Gibson's movie about Jesus for discussions, reviews, and opinions about something no one has seen.

Well if you've read that section and don't really play many other games, then you're right, save the $30. The limit section on Hold 'Em is solid, but not as far reaching as HPFAP.

SaintAces 04-18-2004 12:51 AM

Re: Super/System 2

Here's what I've heard. Daniel Negranau (sp?) reported that it's
basically a new book. He wrote a section on triple draw, and
he proofread Jennifer Harmon's section on limit (high) hold'em.
He said the new stuff in the book is fantastic. Release date is
slated for October. I borrowed someone else's copy of Super
System, and I'm gonna buy one for myself ($19 shipped
from overstock.com,) and get 2 when it comes out. Can't have
enough good poker books.

Baldwin, Caro, and Reese wrote in the original. Hopefully they
will update or write up new stuff. Caro probably wrote something
about tells - his draw chapter in the first book spends a fair
amount of time on them. Or maybe not - he's capable of anything.

And reading stuff from Chan and Greenstein should be great.

If anyone else has more info, please share.

Regards,
aeronaut

a question and two comments

My question: Does anybody know what the price on the book will be? Hopefully it will be less than the $100 that I heard the first one sold for.

My comments:
1. It is sort of odd that Doyle is publishing another book even though he has stated he regrets publishing the first one (as is well documented in Positively Fifth Street), could this signal that Doyle is ready for his poker career to come to a close?
2. A lot of the books authors are playing in the superstars of poker tournament that has been discussed on another thread. I wonder if the release of the book was coordinated so that it would come out near the same time as the tournaments airing.

Just some thoughts

$23.77 on Amazon.

Re: a question and two comments

that's true amazon is pre selling it for 23.77, all I stated was this book has a release date and no one will have it before anyone else. The poster just asked the price and $34.95 is the retail price.

Re: Super/System 2

That's only 69 pages per author. I wish each co-author would release a book on their own so it would be more content but I guess the time is to valuable for those high-limit players like Chip Reese and Johnny Chan to write an entire book each...

Re: Super/System 2

About 99% of the people that purchase that book will only read about 1/5th of that book.

Joshua 07-26-2004 11:52 PM

Re: Super/System 2

I'll probably read a bit more than that since Jennifer Harman is a succesful high-stakes player and Doyle Brunson has stod the test of time at high-stakes (I'm sure he'll write something since he's listed as the main author). I'll probably read the rest as well since I'm sure Doyle Brunson gave alot of thought before selecting these players to write about what they know best. I'm a little afraid though that it will be alot of basics so you may be right that I would read 1/5 and skip through the rest. Amazing list of co-authors though.

MicroBob 07-27-2004 02:43 AM

Re: Super/System 2

i don't really think that the first super-system was 'a lot of basics' so i don't know why this one would be.

doyle has said that he had to change his style of NL play because people learned his original style too well from the book.
i am assuming that doyle addresses his new approach to NL-holdem in SS2.
which i guess means that he'll have to change his strategy YET AGAIN.

some of the other sections are a bit dated because the formats have changed (2 blinds in LHE is the big one) or games just aren't played that much anymore.
a lot of people love super-system....but also readily admit that a lot of the content just isn't applicable to today's games anymore.....so there certainly is an opening for a new version of SS with a Bronx-Bombers line-up of authors addressing today's games and formats.

and i'm sure the authors will get a decent paycheck too as this is sure to sell like hot-cakes in today's poker-crazy era.

Joshua 07-27-2004 09:35 AM

Re: Super/System 2

Don't get me wrong. I'm really looking forward to this book. All those co-authors know alot about poker. It's also an opportunity to broaden my poker skills to inlcude other poker variations since I'm mostly a Hold'em player.
